Would the difference in the two numbers reflect the number of cars built in between ?
Difference in number for the last 6 digits only, not the last 8 digits.
The difference between 65100018 and 55100018 does not mean that 10000000 cars have been built because the 6 in the indicated position is the model year number.
For the same model year, however, the difference in the last 6 digits of the VIN would indicate how many cars were built in between.

Is it correct to assume that if you have two vin #s, and you take the last 8 digits, that the higer numbered was built later than the lower # ?
The sequence number only identifies when a car starts down the line. If it is shuttled off to a repair area for significant problems it is possible that a car with a later sequence number will be completed and off the assembly line before the other car.
