Default Question about "Auto Unlock" feature

Regarding the "Auto Unlock" option on the DIC: I selected "BOTH"... and in theory, when the ignition is turned off on my manual transmission C6 coupe, both doors should automatically unlock. But they do not.

Every other feature of the car works perfectly, it would not make much sense that this one feature only does not function. I suspect I am doing something incorrectly or am overlooking something.

So far since I've owned this car, to the best of my memory, I've ALWAYS had to hit the door unlock button in order to get out of the car. This is actually ok with me. But, I'd like to think that I could get the auto unlock to work.

If this one feature is indeed not working properly, I am just going to forget about it. I don't mind unlocking the door to get out. I certainly do not want to bring the car to the dealer and have them possibly screw up an otherwise perfect car. I can live without that one feature.

But, again, I suspect that the car is ok and that I am just doing something dopey or overlooking something. Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks. Do you know for a fact that the parking brake must be set for the auto unlock to work? It does not say this in the owner's manual. I ask because I am pretty sure that I always set the parking brake PRIOR to attempting to open the door. But, to be certain, I'll do a test next time and then see what happens.

I never use the parking brake and I never have to unlock my door. Not sure about the passenger door as I seldom have passengers.

According to the manual, you seem to be doing everything required to get the automatic unlock to work. Shopdog's suggestion that you set the parking brake does not appear in the owner's manual for that act, but it wouldn't be the first time something was left out of the manual.

Evidently BigJoe has an A4 and vet has the MN6, but the manual says one unlocks when put in PARK, the other when the engine is shut off. Here's what's on page 2-13 of the 2006 owner's manual.

Programmable Automatic
Door Unlock
Your vehicle is programmed so that when the shift lever
is moved into PARK (P) for automatic transmission
vehicles or when the ignition is turned off or is in
Retained Accessory Power (RAP) for manual
transmission vehicles, both doors will unlock.

A long shot...
On my C5, installing a CB radio causes the "Auto Unlock" feature to not work if the CB is turned off. EVERYTHING else works fine, and the Auto Unlock works if the CB radio is on. It's been that way for 67K miles.
Very strange electrical combinations...

They did on my MN6 05 C6 and they do on my A4 05 C6.

When I approach or shut off, both doors unlock.

When my wife approaches, only the drivers door unlocks. When she shuts off, both unlock.

Works exactly as programmed. YMMV
