I am trying to decide what color to get, as I am torn between LBM and VY. One thing I have noticed on the Vette's I have seen is that the VY ones seem to have a much better finish (lack of orange peel, etc.)than those that are black, red, etc. Any of you out there with LBM notice any issues with the quality? Also, has anyone had any luck with sanding and buffing to remove the orange peel? Any input would be appreciated.
There's one member on the Forum with LMB who regularly complains about orange peel. As for myself, my LMB borders on flawless. No, I have not put it under florescent lights and a magnfiying glass, but having gone over every inch with cleaners and waxes, I cannot find a problem. I might add when I took Museum delivery of the car in December, my Museum guide said that they had recently made some changes to the paint to improve on it. From my perspective, again, it is outstanding.
My LMB has some OP in some areas, but I can't notice it without looking hard at it. I really don't usually see it and am very happy with how the paint looks. This weekend I was working on the car and happened to catch it at the right angle to see that there actually is OP on the door. That is the first time I saw it there in 10 months!
All of the LMB cars that I saw at the dealer had terrible orange peel. I ordered and now have Silver and have none that I can see. I have yet to see an VY up close, so I cant comment.
As for wet-sanding..........that is a major no-no. Without knowing how think the clear is, you (or the detailer) runs the risk of sanding through to basecoat.

My car has a spot on the pass. door top that is absolutly horrible!!!
The reason it looks so bad is cause it's right where the rear fender meets the door. I see if everytime I was the car
I have a LMB and the dealer after a month was made to re-clear and buff out the entire car. It is smooth as glass now. May want to check with your dealer warranty on that. This was a funded warranty item on mine and I have the detailed info from the dealer on it
I was in the BG plant last week, and it seemed they all had some orange peel to about the same degree. Mine is a DSOM, and it has some orange peel but not too bad. But it shows more on some colors than on others. I thought the Monterey Reds looked great (a beautiful color), and the orange peel wasn't as noticeable on them. Ditto for the VY's and the silvers.
