What is Virtual Advisor and is it free for the first year ? My one year trial is running out soon and I am debating whether I will renew. I noticed that when I said "help" after "OnStar Ready" it gave me a lot of choices and one of them was virtual advisor. However when I said "virtual advisor" it said that it was disabled. Have I been ripped off for the full year on this option ? Should I complain ?
One problem with Onstar. Every cool "feature" cost $$$ to access. If you have a cell phone why waste money on a redundant service? Just my opinion, of course...

I just bought an 06 vert a week ago. I think the virtual advisor has something to do with your telephone service. I've been trying to make a call (and use my free 30 minutes) for a week now and when i hit the telephone button, it says "onstar ready" when I ask for virtual advisor (so i can place the call or get a local weather check) it tells me the same thing as your hearing. I've contacted onstar (blu button) three times and they said it's not activated yet, hmmm have you ever made a call from your car? did you get the free 30 minutes? i think you have three months to use them..... April
Just activated my OnStar Saturday, got 100 minutes
I pressed the blue OnStar button Saturday after owning my Corvette for about 2 weeks and got a very pleasant operator, I think her name was Andrea. She activated my account and gave me my OnStar phone number and offered me 100 additional minutes for $14.99. The 30 free minutes expire in 3 months unless you get the additional minutes and then all 130 minutes are good for 1 year. I have a cell phone but the service is questionable in some areas, so we'll see if Onstar is any better, plus I like the ability to talk while I'm driving hands free if I need to. It's definitely worth $14.99 for the first year, we'll see if I renew it after that.

Yes I have made calls from the car and even purchased extra minutes. But this virtual advisor does not appear to work. Has anybody on this forum used the virtual advisor or is it something they advertise but it does not work ?
Virtual Advisor uses your personal calling minutes; there are no other charges. To use it you have to go to onstar.com, log into myonstar, and setup what you want to hear. From the OnStar Virtual Advisor FAQ:
Q. How do I use Virtual Advisor?
A. Press the white-dot or phone button and say "Virtual Advisor." You can use the following voice commands to go to each category:
"Get my news."
"Get my sports scores."
"Get my traffic."
"Get my stock quotes."
You can stop the Virtual Advisor at any time by saying "Take a break" and then say "Come back" to resume. You can say "What are my choices?" or "Help" when you need help. If you need to speak to a live Advisor, just say "Customer care," and you will be connected to a live Advisor.
Q. How do I personalize the information I receive in my vehicle?
A. Click the MyOnstar tab at the top of the page and then log in to Virtual Advisor using your account number. Follow the instructions to set or modify your preferences any time.
