I was reading the on-line owner's manual and I noticed it said on page 5-8
"To remove the fuel cap, turn it slowly counterclockwise.
The fuel cap has a spring in it; if the cap is released
too soon, it will spring back to the right.
While refueling, let the cap hang by the tether below the
fuel fill opening."
Does this mean the tethered cap is touching the fender as it hangs?

It can if you let it. I've only filled up twice but I've been hanging the tethered cap over the hook on the gas door. It's not 100% out of the way but if you're reasonably careful to not knock it off when inserting or withdrawing the gas nozzle, it'll stay there.
ME TOO.Chevy was a little busy on "where to hang the gas cap day",and left us out in the cold w/that one!!
I don't matter in NJ because we aren't supposed to pump our own gas, the gas jockeys whip the cap off and let it fall so it clangs against the side of the vehicle.
So any time I gas up my vehicles, I jump out and remove the cap myself. Two are locking caps anyway.

Tom
I use the part of the latch on the door to hang the tether over. That way it doesn't touch the fender. Unless they have shortened the tether since my C6 was made it seems to work just fine.

Same thing here in Oregon so I cut the strap off and now the gas attendants put the cap on top of the pump when refueling. I just always watch in the mirror to make sure they put it back on before I go.

The forum is great. Where else can you learn so much about a gas cap. On all of my cars I have just put them on and taken them off. On the C6 it takes a forum to figure it out.
