In the shop manual, on page 6-34 under Oil Consumption Diagnosis, there is an entry in the diagnostic table that states oil consumption may be caused by the rings not being seated properly. It also states that adequate time must be allowed for the rings to seat.
I know that many people feel that the rings are seated by the time the car leaves the factory and the 500 mile breakin period is for the gear train, but the manual implies that the rings may take longer to seat.
Does anyone know how long GM feels someone must wait for the rings to seat?
