How do you shut down the Nav system prior to reaching a given destination?
R
Wade down through the menus and hit guidance off. Or just hit the speech button and say "guidance off". The latter usually results in some amusing behavior other than what you intended, though, so selecting guidance off from the menus is the surer way.
Just one of the many "pains in the ***" about this system. It sounds easy when someone walks you through it, but it's very un-intuitive. BTW, just turning off the nav system is damn near impossible until you figure out the really stupid way you have to do it.

I have learned to use the speech recognition feature in NAV more and more. True, it is is not perfect. Sometimes you are misunderstood, and have to try two or three times, but it is only one key stroke so it takes no time whatsoever.
I agree that the menu flow is awkward and very frustrating, unless you memorize the sequences. If you are an infrequent user like me, this is a particularly steep learning curve.
That's why I have learned to scream at the mike two or three times.
Gee, "route options" is somehow supposed to be intuitive to turn Guidance off? That's like figuring out how to turn your computer off by clicking "Start".
Now, tell me this, how do you turn the navigation system off? BTW, I do know how, but I have never been able to find it in the manual. I had to figure it out by trying several things.
Also, one of my big bitches is the manual. It frequently says something like "XXX can be done on this screen" (it shows a picture of a screen). But it does not tell you how to get to that screen!
Sure, it can all be figured out if you want to spend hours studying it, and if you use it frequently. But I stand by my statement that it is very un-intuititive, and the directions suck.
If it makes you feel any better, you can go to a month-long school transitioning to fly the newest Boeing wonder jet. You will be given a manual that devotes an entire chapter to the computerised stuff in the airplane, with a picture and narrative for almost every step. The instructor will tell you "Don't read that crap, it'll mess up your mind. I'll show you how to do it in the trainer." He will teach you more in an hour than you could have learned by reading the manual for a month.
Lucky people have someone to show them the nav functions. I'm hoping that our NCM delivery includes that info...
