Default Check Oil Level DIC Message

I have a year old '05 Z51 MN6 Vert with 5500 miles on it. I got in it today and started it a got a "Check Oil Level" message in the DIC. I checked the oil and it was 2 Qts low. I added 2 Qts of 5w-30w Mobil 1 and the level was normal and the message went away.

What's the scoop? 2 Qts low after 5,000 miles!!!

Normal - you should see it drop to nothing soon. BTW It would of been better to change the oil than to add two quarts you are overdue!

I had the 2 Qts at home and didn't want to take any chances. I'm taking in later this afternoon to have it changed.

I only saw a slight drop in oil level over the first 3k oil change; am coming up on my second at 6k and have seen no usage. Nevertheless, from what I've read here, people have been all over the lot with oil usage experiences during the first few thousand miles.

Sounds normal but you should check it often.

I just hit 6000 miles. I've changed the oil at 1000,3000,6000 miles and have yet to lose any oil. If it was one quart I could understand. I remember my LS1 Camaro did the same thing "due to oil blow at cold starts, the rings, etc" atlease that is what the dealership says. As for two quarts I would ask about that. I would change the oil and see if it happens again. If you lose 2 quarts again I would get the dealership involved and have them run all the fun oil, compression, etc tests. There was a guy in our club that was losing 2 quarts and GM replaced the motor rather than tear his apart and look for the real reason.
