Default MP3 files.... record in sequence

OK, I need help here... when I try to record an mP3 disk with over 200 songs I can't get the songs to record in the order that I want....I am using "MUSICMATCH" software..... it looks OK on the computer screen when I record it but when I play it back it is not in the sequence that shows on the screen.... Can anyone recommend a software package that will just copy the songs in the order that you want them????

I tried to call them, no one ever picked up. I tried to email them, no one ever replied. So, I just filed a dispute on the credit card I used to purchase the upgrade and got my money back. As far as I am concerned MM is a PITA.

I now have Real Player but have not attempted a burn since I got it.

The deck will play the files in alphabetically order by the file names. Therefore, if you edit your filenames (copy them to a seperate directory and edit the copies) and make the first digit a number and number them in the order you want, they should play in that order.

Try making a practice disk first to check it out. Let us know if it works.

yep -- use Nero software. works perfectly.
just burn it as a "data" CD, and Nero will just put the MP3 files on as is.

Also, don't forget to organize the music files into folders -
rock, jazz, classic, etc --
then you can use the >> and << buttons in the C6 to change folders while playing. This helps you find the songs you want much more quickly than trying to press > or < and go through each song one by one until you find the one you want.

setting up your songs in folders (subdirectories) on the disk is the key to life

Default Order You're Music

You can get away with using Windows Media Player 10.0 and Windows Explorer assumming you have a Windows computer. There is a track colume that can be selected to be displayed for the folder containing the music. I also place an sequential digit in front of the titles to order the burn. I guess it's an undocumented Microsoft Feature to have the list alphabitised when buring the list of songs to the CD.
Windows Media Player Plus has some sound filtering in it to allow copying vinyle and Cassettes (Yikes what are those?) to mp3 files. So you really don't need anything else.

Here are two freeware utilities that are helpful in making MP3 disks:

http://www.fauland.com/af5.htm lets you rename your files in bulk, such as adding a sequence number at the front of the name. This should assure that burning and playing are in the order that you want.

http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/ normalizes the gain (volume) of an entire group of MP3 files so you don't have to change the playback volume for different albums.

I've used both. They really are free, and they work.

I use the Itunes. You can get it free and you don't have to buy their music. It keeps the songs in your order if you click on the song titles.
You can also arrange by album. I haven't used the Nero, but Music match to me is not as user friendly for burning MP3's

I use iTunes also, and have no problems!! But then I LOVE my Mac!! You should see the neat DVD I burned with all the video from our NCM Delivery made into an iMovie and all the stills we took made into a slide show, all complete with titles, transitions, and music, and burned onto a DVD! Really cool stuff.

Although iTunes works, it still has the same file name length issue as Musicmatch and other mp3 Jukebox/Media player type of software. If the file names are over 22 characters they will not appear/play in the Corvette. You would have to rename the files to a shorter name for the purpose of burning them as well.

The only progam found which will allow songs with long file name to play in the radio is Nero Burning Rom when set to the correct burn settings. However, it is not a Media Player application so to get files into it you have to navigate folder by folder and insert songs you want.

So far I have not heard of a all-in-one software solution which will play the files in the correct order of the playlist, and automatically shorten the file names prior to burning so all songs appear.

Link to thread where most of this has been already discussed:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...0&page=1&pp=20

After trying Winamp, Windows Media Player, Musicmatch, and RealPlayer I have decided the best solution is to use software similar to the one mentioned above which will renumber the files directly from any playlist. This allows you to create the playlist in the program of your choice. The one I use does not rename the actual MP3 files, it makes copies of them and puts then into a new folder.

I am using this one right now http://www.crobyte.com/ but am still looking for an alternate which is free. This free trial is from Croatia and it works perfect. However the free version of this only allows up to 300mb of files to be converted in an attempt to get you to pay. What kind of money do they use in Croatia and would I give them my credit card information? Of course those of you who have no ethical issues might be able to find a way to locate a key code for it to fully enable it or get it from someone who knows what it is. Or be ethical and buy it for $8.75 US.

With this software I can create the playlist in the media player program I am comfortable using. I then export the playlist file from the media player program.

I then import the playlist (.m3u) file into the MP3 Utility software and it will renumber each file 001, 002, 003. It then saves a copy of each song on the playlist in a new folder. When burned they will play in the correct order because they are numbered 001, 002.

I then use Nero Burning Rom software cause it is the only software which has been found on the forum which seems to burn the files even with file names over 22 characters and they still show up and play in the radio. I just burn the contents of the folder containing all the .mp3s.

So although it is a three step process, it saves me the time of renumbering the files manually, or renaming the files manually prior to burning.

I will be doing this until someone here finds a single Media Player application which will do everything: create a playlist, and burning the songs using the same software the songs will play in the same order as the playlist when put into the Corvette radio. And also, it must play songs even if the file names are too long without me having to manually shorten the file names prior to burning.

Has anyone found this ultimate media player yet?

I create a folder for each group of songs. I then bring each folder into a program called ID3-Tagit 3. In that program you can make all the names the correct length by making the ID Tag 1.1. You can then enumerate the list of songs by clicking on the enumerate button. This will number all the songs in the folder in the order you want them to play. You can then burn them with Nero. I have my folders with the songs in each folder with the order I want. Before you burn, you can also run them through another program called MP3Gain which will put all the songs at the same volume so you don't have to keep adjusting the volume in the car. This is not that difficult once you've used it a few times. You might want to try this.

With a limited amount of songs in a library this could work. But if you have 100's of albums and 1000's of songs it would be rather labor intensive to compile copies of the songs you want into a folder for burning. Are you using Windows Explorer to do this, or do you have a method in the Media Player software for taking your playlist and exporting actual copies of the MP3 files to a new folder to be renumbered?

I think a must is the ability to use a Media Library program similar to iTunes to create your song list since it allows you to search based on name, year, album, etc. I can't imagine creating a custom disc by copying files in explorer.
