Devil made me do it
Well, I just put in another order for a new vert. Out here in the boondocks they are hard to get. The first order I put in was with a dealer that had no current allocation. They gave me a 6 - 8 month delivery prospect.
The dealer that just took my new order for the exact same options plus the power top gave me a price that is lower than the bottom line on my first order (without the power top). Plus, and this is important, they have allocation and have promised that it will be used for my order.
Now I have to go get my deposit back from the first dealer. Even if they don't give it back which they said they would, the bottom line on the new order is less than the original.

Tried Local
I went over the border into Ohio and then into KY but they weren't discounting at all. The local dealer made it sound as if the good deal he was giving me was worth the wait. Then I went to another local. I didn't understand, at first, about how the allocation worked and I had to get edumacated. This forum has done that. The date of the allocation for my latest order matches the time period in which the money for the car will be available. I couldn't take delivery before Apr so I was willing to wait a little.
I try to buy locally and support my neighbors when I can. Next is within the state and then in the US. Even though it seems easy, I just couldn't get myself to venture into purchasing a car off the web. I need the face-to-face for an expenditure that big. I am not rich by any means so I have had to plan out all of the costs well in advance.
I got scrooged on a long distance purchase when I was in the service and that burning is still in my memory. Oh, well, I will have my dream car eventually.
I try to support local dealers as well by giving the opportunity to match the forum dealers' prices. Most of them just laugh. That's why I now own an 06 vert purchased from a forum dealer and shipped to me.

Hope you get home soon to be able to drive it for many, many miles.

Pappy. I try to buy local too. So I started close to home and just kept moving out until I found a dealer that would actually 'deal.' Oh yeah, and that would let me test drive...that was a big one. I ended up about 100 miles from home and had a good buying experience.
