I'll be driving from Salt Lake city to Pittsburgh in May. What route should I take. I hate the thought of I80 all the way.

Take I 80 to Davenport Iowa to 74 E to Indianapolis to 70 E to Pittsburgh 79 N puts you in Pittsburgh.

The main reason is to avoid the three Turnpikes. Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

It is only few miles longer but better accomodations and fuel stops

If you have some time and want to actually enjoy your trip (vs. just driving from point 'A' to point 'B' look here). This is our 'bible' for road trips (until we exhaust all of these...we're about half done so far).

Wow! rt 50 sounds great! I've been on part of it (West to Nevada) and it really is lonely. Nothing for nearly 100 miles. I only saw two other cars in that 100 miles. Thanks for the tip

Yes, we took US50 all the way to the Mississippi a couple of years ago and then headed north through Hannibal MO (Mark Twain's boyhood home) and caught US20 across to the Atlantic Ocean. What's amazing is how many interesting things you can find on these roads using the book. Form National Parks and historic sites, Presidential homes and libraries, historical forts and pioneer history....to the Rock 'n Roll hall of fame! Not to mention some really offbeat stuff. Most of these things you would normally just drive right by and never even know they exist.

There is paperback book by the same name that you can pick up at your local bookstore. It's great to have it along so you don't miss out on anything.

Have a great time on your trip!
