Has anyone heard anything about the LS3 (450hp) being the base engine for 2007?

I have heard that the super secret project X347D engine/transmission that puts 465 hp to rear wheels will be standard. There will be a reduction in MSRP of $3750, and Z51 will be standard. The Z06 wheels and tires are included on the base model, but the identifying markings on the hood and rear facia will be a $6,500 option.

So, what have you heard?

That's what I heard too.....from someone who knows someone who works at the Shell station across the street from the assembly plant.

Hoosier Red,
Thanks for the verification! I was beginning to think that my intelligence on this matter was flawed.

Heard the exact same thing from a friend who's cousin is friends with a guy that mows the lawn of Bob Lutz! Can't get any better info than that....

According to Dave Hill at the Labor Day celebration last year, they weren't planning to up the horsepower again that soon. But he may not be in the loop anymore, and the guy at the Shell has got to know, right?

It took 4 years to bump the base C5 five hp, then it stayed there for the last 3 years of the C5. 7 years with almost no change.

I think the competition will drive this along a little faster - but probably not in '07.

Lutz can't seem to make up his mind. First he said the GTO is cancelled, now he's saying it will be brought back in 2008 on the Zeta platform (new Camaro chassis, which was also said to be cancelled before it popped up again to host the Camaro).

SSR is definitely gone, though, so is the LS2 at the end of the 2007 model year since the plant that builds it is being closed. That means the Corvette will need a new engine. The LS3, based on the new Chevy truck engine (already in the new Yukon) is it.
