Default Paint Problems

Being my first American car I have a question. Has anybody noticed any dirt in the paint from the factory. Not a fish eye but a speck of dirt in the paint. With water based paint is this normal on American cars? I was there when it can off the truck so I know the dealer did not paint anything. I found one spot in the rear quarter. It also looks like the front bumber is off in color when you look at it from different angle. MS/Light Grey is the color. I wonder if it is worth it the get the bumper redone or wait till I have some stone chips. My Mercedes had tons of dirt in the paint and the factory wrote me that it is normal with water based paints. So much for MB..

Depending on how deep the speck is, it may be able to be polished out (by a professional!) without damaging the clearcoat. I see this frequently on cars that have been painted in body shops as they can't help but pick up small amounts of dirt or lint here and there. In all cases, once the paint has cured (after a month or so) they say to bring the car back in for them to polish out the re-painted areas and they successfully remove all such imperfections.

As for the slightly different hue of the bumper, that's a tough Q to answer without being able to see it. I have Machine Silver as well; I don't have any obvious color matching problems but under certain conditions panels made of different materials (e.g. quarter panels and bumpers) seem to reflect light ever so slightly differently.

My question is why does GM have such a difficult time getting a perfect paint finish? I have a 05 G35 and a 05 4runner and both have almost flawless paint jobs. I'm pretty critical about paint finish and couldn't find anything like so many have described with vettes. The 4Runner has a tiny bit of OP but nothing that detracts from the over all finish. The G35 is really flawless... stem to stern! So why does GM have such a tough time putting a great paint job on vettes?

I know that many here have complained about lousy paint jobs on their Corvettes. I don't know if I'm just less picky than most (which I highly doubt), but I'm very happy with mine. I've gone over every square inch of it in the washing / waxing processes and have zero complaints.

Default Paint Problem

Thanks Everybody,
The fender could just be GM QC it matches perfect. The front bumber looking down looks right on. Front the side the bumper looks darker. Now do I live with it or remove and repaint? Good question

Good comment. Also, IMO, if you stress and stress over every piece of dirt or particle on your car, you WILL go nuts. Nothing is perfect. Dents, dings and scratches are one thing. Just don't gauge your happiness by the number or specks in your paint.

On the VY, I saw one the other day at the dealer...paint job looked VERY nice.

Your right, my wife used to be perfect and I got rid of her because of a dated body I guess I will keep it..The bumber is off in color though/ I think it was repainted Dealer or Factory?
