I don't believe that there will be a Targa for the Z06 since they have to change too much structure of the car however I do believe there might be a auto for the Z06 in the future since 2/3 of the Corvette are sold with automatic transmission. Try to drive a 6 speed here in Ca and you will understand why most of us want an auto. I am hoping that the automatic will be in the Z06 by 2008 or 2009.
no way - they're not going to change the structure of the car to accomodate a targa
The roof of the Z06 is simply bolted in now. They added 4 tabs to the coupe hoop and windshield header to accept the bolts, and deleted the latches. All they have to do is not do that and leave the hoop and header the way they are in the regular coupe. Job done.
Good point Craig. My problem is why can Ferrari, Lambo, etc create 500HP Verts, and GM can't?
and they can.......... I find it amusing that folks think it's such a huge undertaking to make the Z have a targa top! The old Z wasn't a targa either and it sure didn't have any "Quote" frame stiffness problems"! Now did it? It wasn't a targa because of...
H I L L... It had nothing to do with the cars frame! Where is all the extra money being made selling Z's? The DEALERS... not GM! A targa would sell like crazy for awhile! As for having 3 or 4 different priced vettes.... so what? You can do that now with a Porsche as soon as you start adding options. How profitable is Porsche? Hummmmmmmm
Personally i don't think it will happen.. If it did, i would be all ears.. There are alot of people out there, like myself, who want z06 performance with the ability to enjoy the weather on a beautiful day. Obviousely, that's why you see people swapping z06 fenders and rims on 05-06 coupes...
Main reason why they won't targa the z06.. --> Why buy the Coupe?.... for the extra money, you can have the 505hp and targa.... What a Deal!
Certainly by now there's an aftermarket company which can do the conversion, isnt there?
It would seem not too difficult to put in some additional chassis supports (just for the extra protection) without sacrificing virtually any performance. And frankly, most of us that want a targa couldnt care less about whatever performance loss (if any) this generated! Paying the corvette tax on this thing, well, thats another issue.

I may be wrong but I thought that the Z06 frame was totally different from the C6. Can anyone confirm this?
