This is my second one and I drive them everyday. No problems except battery issues for my first one, and I put 74K on that one.. Just had this 06 Vert now for less than a week. But I love it beter than the 02 I had.

I had a 97 Viper which I traded my 2002 ZO6 for. I thought the Viper was more cool. The Viper turned out to be an expensive kit car!!!! I missed the ZO6.

Funny, my 8 year old Dodge RAM has darkened a dealer's door only once, and that was a warranty repair (done flawlessly I might add while I rode off in a loaner RAM, let Chevy match that). My 9 year old Intrepid has done even better, zero problems in 147,000 miles. My two Jeeps (also Chrysler products) have also been nearly flawless (failed crank sensor on each at about 80,000 miles, an endemic issue with the 4.0L 6, but it only took me a few minutes to replace that $12 part). If only my experiences with Chevy trucks and cars were as good.

Don't misunderstand, I love my Corvette, but it has already spent more time in the shop than all of my Chrysler vehicles combined. Now true, a lot of that time was due to dealership incompetence, but that's part of owning a Chevy.

am I missing something here? He traded a new Z06 for an '04 viper AND an '04 SRT10?? Ummmmmmm, does this friend need any real estate in sunny south florida? I could sell him some prime everglade property for real cheap ;-)

Economically he may have made off well, if:

The Viper was $55k (mark down)

The truck was $45k

The Z06 was $85 (mark up)

SO - assumin ghte above he did ok.

If the retail was $125k (as it should be) for the Dodges, he made out even better.

Also, he can still order the '07 Z, and be back with the crowd, plus two other vehiicles

For him it must have been right, for me NO, I would not want the repair bills on those things.

I get the distinct feeling that this was NOT a new Z06. I know the post indicated that it was, but my gut tells me otherwise. What do you guys think?

The Viper GTS, IMO, is the nicest American performance car. It's definately the purest with its lack of driver aids (just my opinion; I still went vette shopping today ).Chevy has been chasing them for years and they fianally caught'em. However, there is no replacement for displacement, and I suspect the Viper will again be on top. Doesn't seem like there's much room left for the small block to get much bigger (unless these 1960's horsepower-wars continue ). So either his 405HP Z is making 80+HP less than both vehicles, or his 505HP Z is even in HP ratings. Either way, sounds good to me. Two v10's adding up to more than 1000HP....and one can carry stuff !

The value of the Dodges may have been $125,000 when new but with the Market premium for a new Z06 and ther rapid depreciation of the Dodges, I am not sure that he did all that well!! My 2c. Bill

You need to keep in mind that untill he walked up to my Vette in the parking lot of Best Buy, I'd never met the man. My original post was based on his statements.

I've owned a Viper. It was an 04. Pure muscle, and uncomfortable as H**L to drive. Runs to hot to drive with the top down because of the side pipes, and the heat from the console. No, the A/C really doean't completely help. Definately not a daily driver, or a comfortable car. Racing suspension helps you feel every pebble you ride over.

Having said all that, it's a beautiful car, and one to be respected. Did our friend get a good deal? If he thinks he did, and he's happy, that's what it's all about

Whoa there math man; the Dodges may at one time had sticker prices totaling $125K, but Vipers are available at big discounts versus Z06 selling well over sticker, so the real world puts a much higher "worth" on the Corvette. And here is a quote from Viper Alley today in response to question of how will Viper stand up against Z06? "Stock for stock the Z06 will kick your a*s." Bet the guy will trade the truck with his wife in it to get the Vette back and I give credit the wife is a "10"!!
