Why would you need a heat shield? I haven't had any heat issues with my C6. This sounds like another useless dealer add-on to get more money from you. Tell the dealer that you will take the car without the heat shield. If cabin heat becomes an issue, you will then decide what to do. My guess is that you will save a bundle of cash and that you will find the Corvette cabin most comfortable without the shield.
Some people have them installed but I have not had a problem with heat in the cabin. Also, it is not something the dealer ever "volunteered" to add. I don't believe I've ever read of anyone on the forum that had the dealer install the shield either. It seems that this tends to be an after-the-sale decision.

But, before you take it, ask what TSB suggests that it be installed and, if it is needed, why doesn't it come from the factory that way. Is it possible that it is a regional or CA thing? Maybe it installs over the catalytic converter.
The dealership in going to put on a heat shield when they get the car.
Should I do this or not? Don't know much other than he said it coolest it down a bit.
What should I know before they do this?

Find out whose heat shield they will be installing. The ceramic coated tunnel plates produced by Elite Engineering are excellent. They cool down the console area, which does get quite hot in the stock car, and they stiffen up the body of the car, which helps with noises, as well as slightly improving handling. One of the best things I've done to my car.
From: Chino Hills, Ca. You are completely safe with me, I'm a good screamer.
Goes under the car, in the tunnel that runs around the driveshaft. The 3 people I know with this installed says that the difference in heat into the cabin is quite noticable. I think its about 350 bucks. From a forum vendor, elite engineering I believe.
Thought about getting one myself.
I've been considering this myself. Check out Elite's website to see the install procedure. It's very easy but really requires a lift. I'd estimate it should not take longer than two hours labor so my advice is to find out in advance how much time the dealer plans to bill you for......
The Elite website has really good technical test data on heat reduction. They are really scientific about their approach to proving their claims and....judging from their test data the products work very well.
OK, just a possibility: Maybe he keeps an Elite heat shield in his office at all times and tells all his customer they will install it for free to make them feel like they are getting something extra. Then he doesn't install it and just keeps the one in his office to tell his next customer the same thing. That would be kind of sneaky, but I wouldn't put it pass some of the dealers around here!
January, I drove from Vermont to Flordia for a two month vacation with my brand new C6. When I left home, it was in the 30's. I knew about the heated seats but was not warned of the warming oven, some refer to as the console. Well, the Hershey chocolate bars stored there for snacking on the way down ....... should have been replaced with bread and cheese. Nothing like a hot grilled cheese on a brisk morning.
