Hopefully they won't void his warranty by claiming that he abused his car.

1/ The Z51 option is a great value.
2/ The Z51 option adds considerable performance to the base C6.
3/ People who order Z51 are very wise shoppers and really know their vettes. Z51 owners are justly proud. I admire Z51 owners.
However, please, please:
4/ Use of the phrase "better than" to describe any aspect of the Z51 in comparison to the Z06 is just absolute nonsense-and I do mean "any".
The model is in its' first year and is one of the most powerful cars ever produced for widespread sale. From all accounts it is unbelievable. When you build close to the edge things break. They will get it right.
( unless they all go on strike over Delphi !!!! )
all IMO and with kind regards to all Z51 owners everywhere...
( maybe your friend would agree with your assessment and would trade you even......it's worth asking him.....)

The above opinions are no doubt based upon sound fact, documented performance results, both past and present, reviews, and the fact that the Z51 equipped C6 is held in high esteem by many in the automotive journalism community. The C6 Z51 enjoys a very favorable and well earned reputation, among many in the automotive community, for its performance capabilities.
The C6 Z51 along with the C6 Z06 is in use at the Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, home of Spring Mountain Advanced Driving School. It was said by none other than Dave Hill himself that the C6 Z51 was very close in overall performance to the C5 Z06.
So yes, your opinion is consistent with that of many others who have had the great fortune to see this very special Corvette for what it is. Either through driving it, owning it, or both.
And thanks for the "kind regards."

I had 500 drag strip passes in two C5 Z06s with no breakage. My C6Z should be able to yield the same service. The "best" Corvette to date should be able to take a launch and strong shifts without breakage.
There is a design flaw in the C6Z CV joint housing that is causing the breakage. When it fractures, the metal pieces are severing the right rear brake line, clearly a safety issue that commands remediation.

Guy's this could happen to ANY Corvette. You'll start seeing more and more of these reports as folks start taking their vette's to tracks all over the country and every once in a while a car is going to "hook up" for a second and BAM something's gonna break.
Plus we don't have all or ANY facts on this incident. If there is a "defect" that's different and I hope GM doesn't screw the owner. I hope this guy joins the CF and provides more details plus GM's response.

This incident is described in post#94, and it is quoted below.

Looks like I won't be driving to Halltech tomorrow for a tune!!
FYI: Car was built on 12/21 and has 1700 miles on it. It was only 40 degrees outside, so the streets were cold. Stock tires, too.

Even more cars, including my own, show signs that the CV joint housing has impacted (and left paint scars on) the frame without yet breaking. That housing has 2.5-3 inches of clearance from the frame and should be safe...if the differential didn't displace upward.

Wow...some of you guys got some egos for sure....
Z51 is for girly men? LOL
The funny thing is you can have C6 Z06 power out of the LS2 with not much work at all. Whatever, that is a whole other topic.

It's amazing how often sarcasm is mistaken for seriousness on this forum.
On topic- IMO, it sounds like GM certainly needs to give some attn to this issue, but it's still hard to say whether this is a production issue, an owner fault issue, or a combo of the two.
This car has amazing power/torque. Couple all of that power with light weight, and things can can wrong quickly if the car is not treated properly.
I have had zero issues thus far. (fingers crossed)
