Last night in west Tennessee and Kentucky there were several tornados, resulting so far in 18 deaths in Tennessee alone. Authorities are stating that there are still many people missing, and they will not know the complete picture until daylight. From weather radar, it appeared that one of the super cells passed right over Bowling Green. There were confirmed tornados in Hopkinsville, Ky., and people hospitalized with injuries, but no deaths reported. Hopkinsville is west of GB. Pictures of 2" hail covering the ground in west Tennessee were shown on the morning news. Sure hope that all our west Tenn and Ky friends are okay.
Death to toll has risen to 23 in Tennessee, still several missing. National weather has determined back to back F3's hit the area. Its very sad. Many good people lost everything within a matter of minutes. Another twister did hit Hopkinsville, Ky., and I think there were fataltites there, also. Haven't heard on any problems at BG.
We had a brutal cell like this hit Florida a good 7 years ago or so... about 150 people were killed total along with millions upon millions in damage costs.
I had as many people are ok as possible, and that the damages will be repairable "easily" enough.
Bowling green had a tornado warning sunday night and it was pretty scary, but ended up it broke up right as it went over the city and swept by at about 80 mph, there was marble sized hail on the southern part of the city, but as you know corvette plant is on the north so therefore they were spared from the weather.
Best wishes and prayers for these people. I grew up in okla, minn, and texas and spent many nights in terror of tornadoes. It's awful. Now I've traded that terror for the certainty that someday everything from vancouver bc to northern calif. will be flattened by a 9.5 subduction earthquake-every 300 yrs and it's been 300 yrs.
though the terrible power of supercells and tornadoes is devastating it does serve to remind us of how small we really are. I am very glad that this country is so big and not broken up into many nations. It's good to be able to share the emotional and monetary costs of weather and other natural disasters with our fellow US citizens. Tn, kentucky, florida, texas, oregon. It don't matter none. we are all part of the whole and feel the losses far away.
