I added a Dynamat Dynapad to my rear cargo area in hopes of reducing the 1500-2000 rpm drone with my GHL exhaust. In my opinion it significantly reduced the drone and practically eliminated it altogether in the 1800-2000 rpm range. While you don't get as much drone you still hear the throaty rumble of the pipes just like without the Dynapad. Dynamat has so many different products its confusing to figure which one would be best. The Dynapad is a 4 layer composite that is 3/8 inch thick and is designed to solve exhaust system heat and low frequency noise. The pad itself is 12 lbs. (1 lb. per square ft.). I used the Lloyds mat as a pattern and cut a piece to lay on top of the carpet but under the Lloyds mat. If you want to remove it you can just pull it out just like you would the Lloyds mat. I didn't want to take the interior apart (pull up the carpet) so the Dynapad made sense from the standpoint of easy install (lay on top of carpet), has a smooth foam bottom (won't hurt carpet), no smell, and marketed as product to reduce low frequency exhaust noise. Total cost $115. Total project time 30 minutes. Here are some pics
Thanks for the post and pictures,BigJag!This may be enough to tip some us toward a new system who were hesitating because of the drone issue. And I agree that if this was precut and packaged with the C6 systems it would be all the better-an excellent concept!
Great! I am glad it worked for you...I have the materials for mine and will probably do it this weekend. While the drone never bothered me, it is certainly something I could live without. This makes the GHL's perfect!
Des / TommyV - I purchased it online from mmxpress.com. The Dynamat part number for the Dynapad is 21100 and it comes on a 32" x 54" inch roll. Dynamat sells it for $140 on their website, mmexpress.com had it for $100 plus $15 shipping. I will caution it took about 2.5 weeks from time of order until I actually got it.
How 'bout trying a blind test - Have your Wife or a buddy randomly remove and reinstall the pad, without you knowing if it is installed or not. Test drive it 5 or 6 times and see if you can acurately guess weather of not the pad is there. It's not that I don't believe you, just think this would be an interesting experiment, and have had too many others insist that their GHL's have no drone what-so-ever.
Under the carpet and also covering the wheel wells would be the ultimate way to do it. That would require removing the factory carpet. I did it on the C-5 and it was not a bad job.

My GHL's obviously do have drone or I wouldn't be spending a $115 to add 12 lbs. of dead weight to my vehicle. I have ridden in a C6 with just about all of the more popular performance exhaust systems and with the exception of Corsa they all drone in my opinion. Unfortunately Corsa is not the sound I was looking for. Since this is the case, as I see it, there are many of us who have the trade off of good muscle car sound for added drone. I only posted this to help others on the forum with the same issue. I obviously have nothing to gain by deceiving someone into buying a Dynapad. I think it makes a big difference. The 1800-2000 rpm drone is pretty much non-existent and the 1500-1700 drone is less harsh than it was. Don't have the time to play the blind fold test game. If the Dynapad was not helping the issue I would throw it in the weeds.
It looks good but, what took 30 minutes to install? Doesn't it come already cut to fit and you just flop it down?

The description was total project time, not install time. And no it does not come pre-cut. If you re-read the post it is obvious the 30 minutes was for tracing a pattern and cutting the 3 pieces required for a wall to wall (if you will) fit of the cargo area. The point was it is a cheap and easy way to reduce the drone. And most Dynamat applications go under the carpet which is a much bigger pain in the a$$.
Adding a Lloyds mat to my vert quieted things down a bit. Next step is try the dynomat. I may try to velcro it to the back of the mat.
If you use the Dynapad (Dynamat makes many different products) there is no need to velcro it to anything. It weighs 12 pounds, its not going anywhere and its a wall to wall type fit. The Lloyds mat lays on top of it and you would never know the Dynapad was under it.
I followed your lead and did the exact same mod - it did help a little with the drone from Borla Aggressives on my A4. My drone is in a narrow band from about 1500-1700 rpm, and I think the DynaPad flattend the volume curve all the way thru that range. The drone is far from gone, but better. Thanks for the idea.

I put Dynmat (not the pad like you used) under the factory carpet. I wish I had found the pad instead. The result is fine but it took me all morning to do it under the carpet.
I ordered the Dynapad and I'm going see it helps for me.
I did notice one thing this morning...I cleaned the inside of my exhaust tips with Simple Green and a soft bristle wire brush (made them look new) and that seems to have narrowed the range of drone at only 1600 rpms vs. the entire 1600-1800 range.
