I don't want to rain on the parade but someone should mention that repo wheels are heavier by 20-30% and not as strong as the OEM wheel.
Also, according to a fellow who is doing some wheel work for me, they are not as true. He prefers not to work on them for that reason. He widens wheels and has had trouble with corvette repo wheels in general.
I think everyone here realizes they are made in China. OEM wheels are made in the USA.
So as in all things you get what you pay for.
For those reasons I would never buy reproduction wheels.
Base wheels are painted silver in a matte finish (You'd be hard pressed to find anything but matte finished wheels on exotics. Chrome wheels, even when there's no other chrome on the entire car, seems to be an American thing.)
Nicely finished.
No extra cost.
Since you're into chrome wheels, an wheel exchange with standard wheels might be the wisest course of action.
I've just ordered an 06 VY coupe. I ordered it with the chromed QX3 wheels - a $1995.00 option.
I got to thinking about this today and I'm thinking that I should just get the standard QX1- competition grey wheels and get a set of the ZO6 chrome wheels that I like better from COH for $895.00 and save the difference of over a grand. I'm paying cash so it is money directly into my pocket (that I'm sure will be spent on other mods)
Does this sound like the right way to go ?

Get the comp gray wheels. You will be happier later because you will save money when you get the wheels that you really want.
Who cares where they come from as long as the finish is good and the wheels balance without issues. I personally would get the stock wheels and obtain chrome Z06 reps. The extra weight only makes a difference if you track the car. Also, expensive wheels are not the way to go if you live in the pothole belt.
I decided to go with the Aftermarket ZO6 wheels from West Coast Corvettes. I took the advice and called Paul there and he hooked me up with a great deal - $1072 out the door including taxes. I’m going to go over there this afternoon and pick them up.
As an added bonus they will buy my stock wheels from me for $500 !
Ya know this is sick ! I don’t even have the TPW on my car yet and I have bought the wheels, a Borla exhaust, a rear color matched spoiler and lined up the Clear Bra and window tinter for this car. This is almost as fun as actually getting the car !

I would definitely do what you're suggesting. The only downside I see is the warranty on the wheels. The factory rims would be protected for 3 yrs or 36,000 miles, whereas the other ones are probably only covered for a year or less.

You're not alone. I had my chrome wheels, Borla exhaust, painted FRC's, a bra, a car cover, my Hurricane, red caliper paint, and the red CORVETTE letters for the rear bumper all in the garage waiting for the car to get built.
My chromes were bought from a forum member who did the WCC exchange. The factory chrome option was still on constraint when I ordered my car. I saved $1100.
I just got home from WCC and let me tell you I was really impressed ! They have a ton of wheels in the shipping area ready to go out today.
While I was waiting for my wheels to be boxed up I watched a guy setting up wheels on a machine that looked like a tire/wheel spin balancer. He would secure the wheel and give it a spin to check the run out on each side and then the concentricity. He had a mountain of wheels to check - I guess that's all he does.
The GOOD thing (if you want to think about it in those terms) is that he had a couple of rejects marked as "rim bent". So they are weeding out any of the bad ones before the customer get them. Smart move on their part.
Just to ease any fears Jeff-Ohio, they come with a 3 year warrantee !
Shurite44 - I don't know what a set of the factory stock wheels weigh but these weigh 112 lbs for all four - that may include the boxes as well though because that's what was on the invoice.
The final note - they look bitchen ! Can't wait to get them on my car.

Um, well I ordered mine with the standard wheels and then called the dealer 2 days later (after the order was accepted) and asked to change to the competition gray but was told it was too late - it was already in the build cycle. I got the same response from the factory; too late to change. So....you might be getting the QX3's. I hope to be picking up my car later this week! MR vert. Woo-hoo!
I got on the phone early this morning to WCC to make sure they had a set in stock then I called Rick Daniel at Les Stanford to make sure I could make the change. He said I was just in time because they were locking the order down this afternoon ! - yessssss
All in all this saved me a ton of money because instead of paying the $2000 for the factory wheels (that are OK ) I got the wheels I like at $900 less plus $80 in taxes I saved plus the $500 they are going to give me for my stock wheels. That's $1500 bucks for more mods !!
All this in addition to Rick giving me the GMID discount - this is working out GREAT !
DON'T TELL MY WIFE !!!
