have my '05 Verte for 1 year now.
only the a few times over the past week --
when I get out of the car and touch the door, I get a static electric shock. Not terribly painful, but not pleasant either.
Anyone else get this?
Any ideas on what I might look at?
Car seems to be fine in all other respects. No apparent electrical troubles.
Doesn't happen all the time. I'll keep observing, but it seems like the only time it's happened is when I had very short drives - like pulling the car into the garage, etc.
Sounds like static electricity to me. Did you have a nylon or wool coat on?
Pants or shoes too, I have that problem in my studio when I wear certain pants or shoes, the lights shock the heck out of me if I don't touch something to dissipate the static.
That's why they tell you now that when you're gassing up, don't get back into the car and then get back out and take the nozzle out. Sliding out of the seat creates static and when you touch the nozzle, a flash fire could occur. Even though the vapors are supposed to be drawn back into the nozzle, there still is a possibility that the nozzle could be leaking vapors. Flash burns hurt, I know first hand!
ok - so you guys have reassured me that this is not an electric problem with the car.
But do I really have to stop wearing my nylons ?
I SOOOO look forward to dressing in drag on the weekends when I'm driving my C6. It just wouldn't be the same if I had to wear pants.
well, alright, seriously maybe it's the pants I was wearing. Summer dress pants of some sort. Hell I just wear what my wife puts out for me, no idea what they are made of. It definitely happened only when I was repeatedly getting in and out of the car. I guess I'm an idiot. That's why I don't post my real name in here - so I can ask dumb questions.
It's just that a couple of times it really hurt !!!

There are pictures on the pump's at my station telling you not to do it but I see many people doing just that and it is so foolish.
yeah - as dumb as I sound ,
one of the things that surprised me about this is that it was happening in very warm weather (60's), not the typical dry winter weather where you expect it.
Oh well, today while detailing the car, wearing my usual Levis (instead of my garters and stockings), had no shocks at all. I guess you guys are right.
The C6 should come with a label: no cross dressing, danger of electric shock.
the static shocks will stop once the weather warms up...
I dunno... I have gotten shocked all year round in various vehicles. I agree the weather has an impact on the frequency of shocks, but I got shocked a few days ago when it was 65, sunny, and hardly any humidity. And nooooooo I wasn't wearing my parachute pants & members only jacket.
Saw them do that experiment on BRAINIAC on G4TV a few weeks ago. They were testing the "cell phone" theory at the gas station. Put a bunch of cel phones in a camper trailer that had gas poured all over it, and all kinds of fumes... called the phones and nothing happend.
Put a guy in a nylon running suit, had him stand in a bucket so the ground wouldn't "ground" him, and he rubbed all over to build up a charge... then touched a wire that led to the camper, and BOOOOOM!!!
Trailer went up like a cannon!
Man, I need to get out more... good thing it's spring!
