After waiting since decision day (March 2005 N.Y. Auto Show) my VY Z is waiting to be picked up Monday 4/10. My wife and I will be taking a week to get back to S.E CT. I will be waving the entire way.
She's a beauty. You should have said Z06, I looked just to find out.
Your lucky when I picked up my Z (51) they moved it in the night before and I didn't get to see it while at home. My family and friends took lot's of copies off the the web cam for me.
Congrat's and have a safe trip home.
Congrats on the Z06! I just got back to Charlotte from my first trip to Bowling Green. I spoke with one of the guys that does the museum delivery with the customers on the way out. Is the VIP plant tour that different from the "regular" tour?
Enjoy your day; take your time and plenty of photos. The NCM Delivery experience has been a "bonding" event for me and my wife. Up until then she tolerated my "plastic mistress" but that was as far as it went.
From the time we placed the order and she picked the color, till our arrive at the NCM I could tell she was warming to the car. The epiphany for her came when we were standing on the line near the end of the line where the new vette's are first started and driven away and our guide asked me if anyone in my group wanted to do "birth" a new Corvette. I showed my wife forward. Once briefed and properly dressed with the protective coverings Bruce carried with him Patricia was positioned inside the railing waiting for the signal from the work station supervisor to cross the production line and approach a brand new Corvette. Once there they chatted for a few minutes and Patricia was ushered into the driver’s seat of a MS Silver convertible with gray top. The supervisor shut the door and had her adjust her seat. I saw her wiggle the gear shifter to make sure she was in neutral and suddenly it started and the headlights pop on. She sat there about 30 seconds with the supervisor looking in from outside. She killed the motor and got out. They walked to a work station and I saw them pull out a sheet of paper I could see them filling it out and signing it and Patricia was escorted back to our group. In her hand was a "Corvette Birth Certificate".
Everyone in our group was clapping and cheering, a lady that drives the cars off the line had stopped and was chatting with our group, (wish I could remember her name now) hugged my wife and I before we left. My wife just beamed.
Not only was a new Corvette born that day, but so was a new Corvette enthusiast.
Not only is she helping me pick out our mods with "encouragement I might add" but she even helped me install our first mod - a CAGS By-Pass. In fact she did all the work, I just held the work light.
Yesterday she drove it for the first time. We were out all day visiting friends and going to lunch. She mastered the 6 speed with ease and finesse and within an hour had tamed the beast to include a trip to the red line. After that she announces, she get's to take the car to work "at least one day a week".
So for us the NCM Delivery turned out to be more then taking delivery of our first brand new Corvette, it was an awaking of our relationship.
I wish you and your wife a similar experience and a safe trip back home.
Tom
PS: I'll be watching Camera 4, BTW that's the same spot our MR coupe was delivered.
It was a rough night. Things never disturb my sleep...until now. Steveo242, you didn't see my panels painted. She was started on 3/17 (Friday) and finished on 3/20. They like to be sure the car is available ( no problems or QC overchecks) that way you can book your flight, lodging and car without worry. 3-4 weeks is normal. Thanks for the support everybody. Off to the airport!
Is the VIP plant tour that different from the "regular" tour?
Yes it is. More personal, not someone just reading a script. You also get to start a new Vette at the end of the line. Our guide also made sure we saw certain things that the regular tour group behind us (they caught up to us because we were slower) didn't see. It also takes longer than a regular tour. We had three regular tour groups go through while we were doing ours and they were all gone by the time we were done.
