Default Break In Update

OK, here goes the beginning of the debate.

I now have 450 miles on my Z51, C6, Mn6.

I broke it in by honing the cylinders to max range. Nothing rough, no speed shifting, no burnouts, but I DROVE THE CAR>

1 st to 2nd, then take it all the way to red line, let it wind back down, then red line again in 2nd, then wind back down. Up and down.

Let me tell you, She now is way more responsive then when new, no oil consumption, a nice sweet exhaust (corsa sport), she shifts smooother, engine is quieter and I can feel a noticable improvement in all ranges of performance.

I post this to be contrary to all the unfounded malarky you read on this site about keeping the rpms low and speed down first 500 miles. You gotta seat the rings for the high rpms if you ever want to be able to really stretch this cars legs. The Corvette Forum is a great thing. Thanks all.

Well, from the service guys at the dealer they said the "brake in" isn't necessary, but I still take it easy.

Still have to get use to the clutch in first. I you aren't careful, you are gone.

Do you feel the engine in the clutch between gears?

400 miles for me to go.
Just cruising along.

Rain tomorrow. Damn it. Garaged!

I mean like you can feel the pistons going up and down.

SO you go, then into second. Instead of going to 3rd just push the clutch in and coast for a few seconds before you shift into 3rd.

If moly rings don't seat in the first few hundred engine revolutions, they'll never seat, no matter how you abuse the engine after that first start up.

The break in period is designed to allow the hypoid gears in the transmission and differential time to run in together properly before they are heavily loaded. That's all it is for.

The hypoid gear ? Running the rearr end in sync?

Yeah, and make sure you change the winter air out of tires to replace with spring air and while your at it, replace you rmuffle rbearings and dont foget to clean your windsheild in the sam edirection as the grains in the glass.

Having some fun here, dont be upset////
