Default GM Quality

Roofs popping off. Failing MP3 players. Poor XM Satelite radio reception. Gas tank problems.

The list seems to be a little disturbing to me. I do not own a C6. I certainly think they are gorgeous but with all the problems everybody is having it makes a little hesistant to purchase one.

I own a '94 C4. While I have had to replace parts on the car I have never encountered a problem such as a roof top being loose (and potentially dangerous) or a gas tank that does not read correctly.

Has GM quality gone done since the C4 era? I do not recall any problems with C5s like we have witnessed on this forum with the C6s. Am I right?

I've had a C4 and much perfer my C6. My top hasn't popped off, although I usually keep it folded down. No problems with MP3 or XM. And the only problem I have with the gas tank is the price I pay to fill it up.

I also had a 94 C4, it lasted 8 years and I had my share of grief. 4 radios, 1 broken power seat, spark igniter, even a broken valve spring, oh yeah and the LTPWS light drove me crazy towards the end. I guess what I'm getting at is I loved that car. The C6 is FANTASTIC, got to be the sexiest looking car on the road, period. Just buy one and start a new love affair...

You're in a Corvette forum where every little detail of every little problem is going to be mentioned. The C6s generally seem to have fewer than most revised car lines. And a lot of the problems are minor ones.

But if you don't want to buy one, that's your perogative.

I have 8900 miles on my '06 and have had zero problems.

My XM cuts out but it's because I live in the land of extremely tall trees...not a fault of the car. I had a flat...which was the fault of the staple and screw...not the car.

As others have said, every problem gets mentioned here to triangulate with other owners...it's not a clear representation of the car overall. Also, there are many here who are fanatics about the care of their car which tends to magnify problems reported.

C5 with no problems up through March of this year, got the C6 and I am still amazed at the detail and craftsmanship of this vehicle.

The quality is much, much better than earlier Corvettes, still plenty of room for improvements in quality assurance programs. The manufacturing and assembly philosophy at GM must change, but more improvements from a dealer customer service side are needed. Own a C5 Vert since 2001, one problem with the gas tank sensor card and that's it. Been baby sitting my boss' C6 vert, one paddle shifter problem, bad pressure solenoid, GM replaced the whole tranny and that's it. ZO6-C6 on order and in the driveway very, very shortly, have plenty of duct tape ready should the roof decide to leave me

something like 80% of the parts have new part numbers.
Any manufacturing will have some issues when this many parts are new
in any product the create. GM cant possibly make all the parts, they reply on many many vendors who are required to meet
certain quality standards. Some issues show up early some after time
it's the nature of the beast...

We havent had one single issue with our 06 vert.

If you like the car, and have any concerns, purchase an extended warranty or maybe a used C5 is what you might be more interested
in if your worried about the c6 quality.

It's called information on demand overload. Everything is in our faces. The quality is better, you just hear about the crap more than ever.

Have a 05 made in Dec 04. No issues at all. Not a one.

I was also hesitant to buy a C6 after months of reading the many posts here from owners claiming to have all sorts of problems. But I did finally buy one... and no regrets!!!

The car is amazing and has been performing flawlessly since day one... zero problems, zero headaches... 100% excellence. The design, craftmanship, performance and overall quality of this car is absolutely outstanding, especially for the price. That's the most accurate account I can make based on my direct hands-on experience.

Five months and several thousand miles later, the car does not cease to put a huge smile on my face every single time I get into it. If it got stolen tomorrow, I'd buy another identical C6 as fast as I possibly could without any hesitation.

You won't know what you're missing until you buy one. I only wish I had bought mine sooner than I did... wasted almost a full year "researching" when I could have been driving. But at least now I can go down to the garage, jump in the C6 and have a serious high-quality thrill any time I want. It's a beautiful thing to have that much fun and excitement on tap, just sitting there waiting for you.

All cars have some degree of problems and quality issues. The C6 seems to be no worse than any other high-end sports car from everything I've read... even ones that are twice the price.

GM could, and did, make more of its own parts, until it started dismembering itself and selling off parts of the company.

GM Quality, like military intelligence, or jumbo shrimp, is an oxymoron.

Shhh! Some people feel the need to justify their purchases to others, and theirselves.

The Fords will last longer and better made you might check into a Shelby GT-500 if you don't want a Corvette but definitely these two cars are two completely different cars. The Corvette of course is still a high end car. The Shelby GT-500 has a more durable suspension but the 4 wheel independent rides better.
