Default Rotor balance?

Put on a new set of Baer Eradispeed rotors today and now I have vibration from 45-60. Can a rotor be out of balance? Nothing else has changed except for the rotors.

Possible but unlikely. Are you sure a tire weight didn't fall off? One way to find out would be to replace one rotor at a time with an old one until the vibration goes away. Start with the front.

I suppose a weight could have fallen off...great idea about replacing the rotors one at a time.

BTW, MCR Corvettes here in Las Vegas did a fine job...very knowledgable and a great father and son team.

I'm not familiar with them, are they a 2 piece rotor bolted together? I've always read that those types of assemblies should be turned before installation.

Yes, a rotor can be out of balance. It can be out of true too. You can check for true with a dial indicator against the rotor as you slowly turn it by hand. To find if one is out of balance, hunt up a tire shop that's been in business for a long time and has an old on-car balancer pushed over in a corner. That lets them spin the wheel/tire/rotor on the car and check total balance. The new off-car computer balancers have made these old machines obsolete, but they're still the quick way to find problems the computer rigs can't.

VetteNV,

I'm liking your wheels/tires. Can you enlighten me?

Are the lug nuts tightened properly, clean lug threads, correct torque, correct sequence, back of the wheel clean, hub clean also?

Yes....absolutely. The car only has 1400 miles on it, and the wheels/tires have about 300. Everything has been done to perfection. I drove it on the freeway this morning and the vibration is a bit stronger at about 70-80 mph.

When I recieved my 2 piece rotors and installed them they would make a high pitch noise like a mouse. My dealer was the one that installed them and told me they put it on a machine that said the rotor was warped. I called Baer and they sent me a new one and it worked fine.

My wife's '01 Jag XJ8 had a similar problem around 55 -60 mph, and now looks solved with new rotors.

Is the vibration under braking at that speed or just cruising? A warped or out of round rotor will not make the car vibrate unless it is under braking. Possibly the rotor hat is not perfectly flat against the hub causing a slight wobble to the wheel/tire assembly.

The vibration is only while cruising....under braking they feel fine.

NO....kept the stock pads (car has only 1400 miles and pads were like new), but again this happens only under acceleration or crusing, NOT braking. Braking feels perfect....even better than before.
