Default Dynapad Part Two

Credit to "BigJag" for the installation of Dynapad under a mat in the rear cargo area. ! I also have the old style GHL's on a C6 A6 coupe

I went one step further. Seats are out and at the trim shop. You can really see that the C6 has little or no insulation or sound deadning material in the passenger compartment. It's basically small foam pads attached to the carpet against sheet metal.

The area behind the seats may be the cause of the majority of noise, be it road or exhaust that enters the passenger compartment. Could act almost like a drum. It is a very thin sheet metal, that buckles if you push against it. No factory insulation between the carpet and sheet metal.

Dynapad was installed over the rear area, console and ledge area between the passenger compartment and the Exotic Vette divider.
One roll covers all these areas with little or no leftover or waste.

Factory carpet reinstalled along with the console.

Will not know the results for about a week, but I will post how effective is the Dynapad install in the passenger compartment.

Total cost of material to do the Passenger compartment and the cargo area ( as per BigJag) is about $220.00 delivered for two 32" x 54" Dynapad rolls. Material is multi layer 3/8" thick and weighs 1lb/sq ft. so you are adding about 24-30lbs to the car.

How difficult was it to remove the carpet. And how was the fit of the carpet after re-installing over the dynapad. Your installation looks clean and well done. Anxious to hear your assessment of the difference. In my opinion just doing the cargo area over the carpet and under the Lloyds mat made a big difference. Do you have the GHL's for the A4 automatic or the original GHL's that were for all C6's. I had the original version at first and changed to the A4 version, even though I have an MN6, and found there is less drone with the A4 version.

How difficult is it to remove the seats? My concern are the airbags.

Thanks

The seats are easy to remove, 4 bolts per seat, I think there are one or two electrical connectors under the seat that have to be un-plugged. The service manual addresses the side air bag during seat removal. It recommends removing the air bag fuse, on the passenger side, internal fuse panel, before removing the seats. You can do the same thing by disconnecting the battery, but I think you would loose your programmed settings.

Get yourself a set of service manuals (2 volumes)...they are full of useful info.

You could probably remove the carpet with the seats in the car and pushed forward, but easier to remove the seats. Seats are two front nut covers held in by push pin, four nuts and two electrical connectors, and the seat belt securing bolt. Once the seats are out you need to remove two screw covers, and loosen the two screws in the rear of the console. The carpet tucks under the console and under the side moldings. It wraps over the ledge and is tucked in at that point. Carpet will just pull out, and reinstalled using a flat bladed plastic scraper or putty knife to push under the moldings and console.. With the seats out it takes about 10 minutes or less to reinstall. If you remove the console to put Dynapad under as I did, then discard the factory rubber piece under the console. If you don't the console will sit too high as the rubber unlike the Dynapad doesn't really compress. You can see the fit in my last picture, looks no different then original factory install.

I have a "Crazy Cowboy' divider, so I installed the Dynapad on top of the cargo compartment carpet and covered it with the divider rug flap. The 32" of the Dynapad is cut 20" for the rear coverage and the remaining 12" fits perfectly in the cargo are in front of the divider. I cut two large pieces for the rear coverage as it is easier to handle. You will have to make a few relief cuts to contour it to the driveline hump. The center between the two large pieces was filled with a small piece of scrap. I used duct tape to cover the joints, but the material is heavy enough to lay flat by itself.

The rear cargo compartment is your idea and very simple. Because I have the divider, I ordered a vert rear mat. I'll do what you did and use it as a template.

The rear area behind the seats is very thin sheet metal, it actually buckles if you lean against it and then pops back into place. I'm amazed how little or no insulation is in the passenger compartment.
I would think that this area could be a main source of road and exhaust noise.

Probably won't get my seats back until this weekend. I've got an A6 with the original GHL C6 generic version. The A6 seems to keep out of the drone RPM range in fifth and sixth gear. I'm curious to see the effect. If you noticed a reduction, then I should see at least that and hopefully more.

It's a nice product, easy to work with and I thank you for your original post
