I was about to make the appointment to have the brakes on my 06exchanged out and replaced under the Z51 TSB but as luck would have it, they stopped that program. The brakes give off a great deal of dust and squeel like a pig! So, whats a good replacement? I dont track the car but want great stopping power - with NO squeel. Whats recommended and where can I buy them?
I am a new owner of my C6 Z51. I had the brake pads changed out two months ago under the service bulletin. They replaced the pads to a quiter bad that I had no troubles with until a track weekend came....
The first day was only a half day at Thunder Hill in Norther CA. It was we out and I know that I did not use the brakes hard. The second day was nice 60 degrees. I drove four twenty minute sessions. On the last session I started to hear a noise comming from my front left brakes. I pulled off the wheel and noticed that I had no more inside pad.
The replacement pads were junk. They only lasted one thousand miles plus a track day.
The GM dealer replaced the pads with the stock Z51 pad today.
I am going to switch to another pad soon. I also plan on buying spare rotors because of the bad things I am hearing about the Z51 rotors as well.
Any downsides to the AC Delco ceramics or the Hawk ceramics? (I'm guessing that the Hawks at 182.78 shipped are more expensive but better?)
yes, I am selling them, but I can't give you any first hand experience if they are better. The hawk literature says they are, but, who knows?
Its not the best way to make a buck, but parts are just something I do because people sometimes want new pads with their brakes and its easier to get them all at once. If I make $5 or $25 on a parts sale, at my frequency of parts sales, it makes no overall difference to me, so I sell at the lowest price I can. I just do it as a convenience, and just know that I sell them at the lowest price that hawk allows.
