I think a hidden kill switch is still the best bet.

Good post. Another reason to only park your car where it's reasonably safe. I would really enjoy catching someone trying to steal my car....

Default Fat Chance

A thieve would first have to get close to you to read your fab, 3 or 4 feet. If not a super computer wouldn't help him. unlock and start the car.

Sounds like this story really struck a chord with people. There is an ongoing thread about it on slashdot.

You should do a little more research before saying fat chance. As a side project while we were finishing an RF design at work, we made what I'll call an RF "code breaker". Costs less than $40 in components and can easily emulate a key fob. hand held and half the size of a palm pilot and you don't need the original. It's ignorance of people that makes it so easy for thieves to steal cars.

Funny note, it doubles as a jammer so when we're bored we turn it on at break and lunch time. No one can get into their cars and end up punching their fobs thinking it ****ed up .

OK so we need someone to design a kill switch which will work Then it has to be put in a place where someone looking for it woud not normally look for it .......... if the crooks really want the damn car they will find a way to take it

Hidden kill switch really is a great security device.
have done this on both motorcycles, but was told this was unnecessary on the vette about a year ago when I suggested it.

If you guys have done this - let us know -- what wire did you interrupt? Where did you access it ? behind the dash? steering wheel? console?

Here's another idea if you're mostly in a safe area (like Lewes, DE) but rarely travel to danger zones (Baltimore, Philadelphia):
  • [*]
  • [*]

only takes my priority start about 5 - 10 minutes to sense the battery drain to 11.7 volts and disconnect the battery. I don't think too many casual thiefs would be interested in stealing a Vette with a "dead" battery, even if they do know how to gain access WITHOUT the use of a FOB (which of course doesn't work when the car battery is dead).

As this type of cars become more prevelent so will the security schemes. And anyway it is still much hard than having a key system, talk about easy. If a thief wants the car they are going to take it. It only takes a few minutes with a flat bed.

I have an anti-carjack unit in one of my cars and am planning to do the C6. Start car, you have 45 secs to depress a hidden pezzio(sp) switch, or else the engine will die. Once that is done, if a door opens and closes, and the switch is not depressed again....the engine will die.

So in essence, if you are at a stoplight, and you get yanked from your car, the thief will drive for 45 secs before the car dies. Same if it gets started and stolen. That way you are theoretically out of danger, the car is disabled on a street, and the baddies won't have time to damage it, as the horn is honking, hopefully at an intersection.. Really a cool device.
