Default Corvette Order

I contacted the Corvette assembly plant about my order for a 2006 Corvette. Here is the response.

Mr. Fowler,

First of all, "THANKS" for ordering a Corvette. However, the Bowling Green
Assembly Plant can't assist you. Your order will come to us from the
Chevrolet Marketing Division, not your dealer. The Chevrolet Marketing
Division will send the order to us when it is time for your dealer's
Corvette allocation. It doesn't matter when you ordered the car, it will
only be built when the allocation is granted. Some people wait months. It
is your dealer's responsibility to let you know your order status. Just to
let you know, it will first be assigned a "targeted build week (TBW)".
That means it can be built early that Monday morning or at the end-of-shift
on Friday afternoon. The TBW is an estimate week. When your dealer sees
the order has reached an event/status code of 3800, that means the car has
been produced (but NOT shipped even though the description my say shipped
in his system). Once your order reaches an event/status code of 4200, it
is physically on a truck heading toward your dealer.

I hope this information helps.

Sincerely,

Lynn Herron

Just for your information.

Yes, most here are familiar with most of this information, especially this part:
It doesn't matter when you ordered the car, it will
only be built when the allocation is granted.
Your dealer should be made to tell you when his allocation (for your car) is. He should be able to look in the GM system of info. and tell you the status event code of your order at any time.

This code has been posted here many times. Here it is.
STATUS EVENT CODES
1100-Order placed at dealer
1101-Order accepted by GM
2001-Order generated to dealer
2005-Order replaced with GM Prospec order
2050-Order changed
2500-Order sent to production, preferenced
3000-Order accepted by production control
3100-Order available to sequence (now the tpw becomes more stable)
3300-Order selected for production by assembly plant
3400-Order broadcasted for production
3800-Vehicle produced
4150-Vehicled invoiced to dealer
4200-Vehicle shipped
5000-Vehicle delivered to dealer
6000-Vehicle delivered to customer

Default Allocations

One big service these Forums provide is education about the allocation system. I am somewhat active on www.thedieselpage.com, where Duramax diesel pickup trucks are the active topic, and the allocations the first two years of production were a big mystery to most of us.

Here on the Corvette Forum, with the excellent support of our supporting vendors, it is much easier for a newbie to find out what is happening, and what to do about it.

You should call your dealer and find out if they have an allocation for your Corvette. Some members of this forum were not told when they placed their order and waited months just to cancel the order and re-order from a dealer with an allocation. If they have an allocation you should get your car in several months depending on constraints at the time.

Just to amplify a bit, the person you want to meet at the dealership is the inventory manager. If you ask your salesperson or sales manager politely to meet this person (and promise not to make a pest of yourself), they will likely help you out. After all, they don't have you totally until the car is delivered and you pay your money.

The inventory manager can check at least once per week on the status of the order and can inform you of any constraints. Typically, except for the Z06, allocation is no longer an issue.

My order in late 2004 took four weeks to be accepted, because I had 4 different items on constraint. Then it was six weeks to delivery. The management at my local dealership was very helpful in keeping me informed, but I never asked more than once a week.

Good luck.
