Default Outside temperature sensor / display **UPDATE**

I just got back from Chevy dealership. I asked them to check my temperature sensor as it takes up to 15 minutes to register an accurate reading. My service adviser printed a paper from his computer that GM published stating that this is normal. GM states that it may take several minutes to recalculate the temp after starting the car. It's not a big deal to me, but it is funny how my wifes BMW 530i can get the temp right almost immediately.

These clowns at GM have no clue. Mine can stay the same temperature for an entire day. But NOOOOO, they can't reproduce it at the dealer. Effing B.S. scam to get around solving the problem.

That's what the owner's manual says.

2006 owner's manual, pages 3-28 & 3-29.

There is also a sensor located behind the front bumper.
This sensor reads the outside air temperature and
helps to maintain the temperature inside the vehicle.
Any cover on the front of the vehicle could give a false
reading in the temperature.
3-28
If the outside temperature goes up, the displayed
temperature will not change until:
• The vehicle’s speed is above 10 mph (16 km/h) for
five minutes.
• The vehicle’s speed is above 32 mph (52 km/h) for
two and a half minutes.
These delays prevent false readings. If the temperature
goes down, the outside temperature will be shown
when you start the vehicle. If it has been turned off for
less than three hours, the temperature will be recalled
from the previous vehicle operation.
Sounds to me like it shouldn't ever take more than 5-6 minutes for it to update IF IT'S WORKING PROPERLY.

Maybe we should compare the car to a dumb blonde. It looks great and you love to be seen with it, it just isn't very smart

My C5 seemed to update quickly. Why did they change the temp gage system on the C6 ?

When I park my car at work it is reading whatever temp it is in the morning (usually the 70-80 range, its TX after all...). After work it reads the, normally, much higher temp instantly. I've had temps read as high as 111 right after I started the engine. I don't understand the above that says the temp reading will not change until I drive a bit. Never worked that way on any of my C5s or my C6...

At the risk of getting flamed, the way it works is way better than the way they used to work (say in the late 80s, early 90s) and the way that most European cars work.

In my '88 Vette, for example, it would read the outside temp instantly, but if you stopped at a light on a 75 deg day, the reading would climb to over 100 in just 1 or 2 minutes. Then it would go back down after you drove to the next light, where it would start climbing again.

My Jag has only a small delay, and most of the above problem is cured, but not all. Driving in traffic still gives a higher reading than actual due to heat from the road surface.

The C6 is logical to me. If the outside temp is cooler than the reading, there is no delay. If the sensed temp is higher, it doesn't jump there until you have either moved a short time at reasonable speed or a longer time at slower speed. It makes perfect sense.

In addition, when I first get into the car, I know what the outside temp is by having just been outside. I don't need no stinking indicator to tell me.
