this may be a general car question honestly but I am curious about this...when lets say pulling in reverse into a parking spot...so initially you are moving forward.....and then you need to stop, put the tranny into R....and then pull back into the spot.....well when doing this, do you HAVE to do a complete stop before you put the tranny into R or can it be a "rolling" move?...in a manual tranny it can be a rolling move of course...im curious to see if you do need to do a complete stop and if you dont how much does it affect the transmission?...sorry for the "general" car question...

No roll, not a good idea, I try to get as close to a stop as possible. Wouldn't want to clunk it into R...
hhmmm ok...i figured it may cause some long term (maybe even short term) damage to the auto tranny....would it cause damage to the manual tranny though?...its not like i would be doing 10mph and then just suddenly snap it into reverse...that would just be ridiculous :0)....
As a former mechanic, I will tell you this. It is always a good idea to come to a complete stop, before putting it in reverse, especially autos. While the manual x-msn can take a bit more punishment, the clutch will not take too much abuse. and in the long run both tranny and clutch will get costly. Is it worth it to you for just a few seconds extra? Oh yeah, drive shaft, rear end too.
