I hope to buy an '07 Vette later this year but can't decide on an automatic or standard transmission. I haven't driven a stick shift in over 35 years, but I can't see driving a Vette without a stick-shift. This car will be strickly week-end pleasure driving. Can someone help me decide?

I drove manuals with clutches up until age 50 (10 years ago) when I decided to give my left leg a rest. I was in a similar position as you, in that I thought a Corvette (for me) should have the manual tranny.
What convinced me was the test drive. Call ahead to the Sales Managers at your local dealers and tell them you want to make an appointment to test-drive a manual tranny Corvette, and then sit down and talk turkey. You can always talk about Thanksgiving after the test drive.
Oh yes, I did order the manual MN6 tranny. The only way (for me, and maybe you) to go !!!
If you don't have any back problems or physical problems that would make it tough driving stick, then get a stick. I have a MN6 and the first thing everyone says when they see it is, " Oh sh!^, it's a 6spd too, that's awesome" So if you can physically do it, get a stick

This is the second time in over 40 years I brought a automatic. I pretty much use the paddle shifters, just like shifting but without a clutch. I am was not disappointed. If I lived in the country with open roads I would have probably got the MN6. Hope this helps--but why not try both out ?
Last year when I first started thinking seriously about getting my very first Corvette I was pretty much convinced that if I pulled the trigger, it would be on an automatic. That was the case even though it would be strictly a pleasure toy and not a daily driver. When I finally found a dealer who would grant me a test drive, it was in a 6-speed manual. Although I hadn't owned a car with a stick for 17 years, I figured I could at least manage the test drive so away I went. What a rush! It was fantastic. The physical and aural sensations of driving that car were beyond description. In the month or so that followed before I eventually ordered my car I still went back and forth before finally deciding on the manual. Had the 6-speed automatic that by that time was already rumored for '06 been available when I ordered my '05 it might have won out but I went with the manual and I'm absolutely positive that I made the right decision. The very cool thing is that unlike most choices that we must make in life, the one you're pondering has no bad answers - whichever way you go, you'll end up with a winner of a car.
I switched from an A4 to an MN6 and have not quit smiling. The MN6 is an absolute blast to drive. Mine is a weekend warrior too. I only put about 500 miles a month on the car. Good Luck!
I am having to make an agonizing decision myself. I currently have an A4, but the opportunity has come up for me to trade it in for a 2007 MN6. For a multitude of reasons I went with the A4 originally, but now, I am thinking I should swap for an MN-6. Everything else would stay the same, including color and interior options. The trade is going to cost me about $7k out of pocket. SHould I do it?

If you won't have any problems with the manual tranny, absolutely. To be able to move up 2 model years for $7K is a steal. Frankly, it sounds like a deal that's too good to be true. What's the story?

Hey friend and neighbor. I am in Lake County right next door!

Simple, when I subtract what I owe on my 2005, from what they are willing to give me on trade-in, and then how much they are willing to sell me the 2007 for, the bottom line was a $7k difference.

That is an important point, we all get what we want, and there are no wrong answers. The initiator of this thread is looking for advice on how to make his own decision.
Enjoy your A4 - that is the ultimate result of 23 years of development from when that basic tranny was first introduced by GM.

The BEST thing in the world is rippin' thru' the gears W/bulletts. If you like loud and mean, and an aftermarket exhaust is in your future, get the MN6. Less drone...more fun. Good Luck.
