Default Fuel Sensor Bug Strikes

Friday nite, while driving my '05 C6 vert to dinner, the fuel guage needle started swinging wildly between empty and the proper level, the DIC read "Service Fuel System" and the engine light came on. On the way home the fuel guage finally dropped to empty after a few more vacillations and the other indicators stay on. On Saturday morning, I started the car to run an errand before taking it in for service. To my surprise, the fuel guage was functioning properly, the DIC had returned to normal. However, the engine light remained on. After completing the errand, I restarted the car and commenced to drive to the dealer. This time the engine light had turned off and everything else appeared normal. Thanks to the forum threads on this subject, I knew that this was not reality. When I arrived at the dealership, I described the problem, told them the build date of the car (2/28/05) and gave them a copy of the TSB (obtained previously from an earlier thread) that I believed pertained to the problem (software bug). They agreed that this was something that they were familiar with but wanted to run the diagnostics anyway. I agreed but cautioned that if they concluded it was something other than the software glitch outlined in the TSB, I wanted them to tell me before doing anything else (like removing the fuel cells). Fortunately, the problem was the software and a replacement download was finished in less than an hour. No muss, no fuss. Another great reason to stay tuned to the Forum.

As they say, the luckiest people are the ones that are most prepared. Sounds like you did your homework and it paid off.

Basically, had the same problem 1000 miles ago. Ran the software and haven't had a problem since.
