these are codes for what again? what will this allow you to do on the nav?
So far, they let you into the diagnostic menu, which doesn't do a lot except let you look at the info the nav unit is using, check it out, and do a few things like adjusting and recalibrating your touch screen. Which is a very Good Thing, as progress is made! Still haven't got patches to skip the "yes, mommy" screen or enter stuff while driving, etc.

thats cool..
what all is being hope for??
can anyone put more software in and design something which can controll A/C and more, or it can only modify whats already running?

Well, in theory it's possible to put new code in, but I don't know how likely anyone is to want to try that. As the nav does talk to the CAN it's possible that it could be used to control other stuff - we know it talks to that HUD, so that's not a problem. Not sure how much it could do to the AC, etc.
Mostly, it would be nice to get rid of the "yes mommy" screen and for the passenger to be able to use the thing while the car's moving. And be able to play DVDs if the hardware's there to support that.
Now hacking the BCM would be useful too - I can think of: default to competition mode, get rid of the loud beep when using the DIC controls, and a few other things that annoy many people.
But please see our 11 page nav code thread for what has been happening.
Ein Tier found them. If you want to say thanks, say it to those guys working in that thread.
Codes 660, 9448, and 295660 work in the C6 navigation unit. No DVD playback yet.
Be cautious about poking around in your NAV before at least reading some of the other thread. I saw already a few members messed with the brightness (or contrast?) and then had a very hard time "fixing" it because it was hard to see.

Screen Calibration. "Default" is not a safe value.
