I asked this earlier in a different thread, but I didn't get a clear answer (probably because of the way I phrased the questions):
I just ordered a 2007 VY C6 from a small dealer. I read later that the order sheet he gave me means nothing (it's his ALLOCATION that matters). What I'm trying to figure out is:
If his allocation is for 1 C6 Automatic 2LT, but he already has a "sold" order in for my C6 1LT six-speed Manual, will the factory send the car he has allocated, or substitute my "sold" car to fill his allocation?
Thanks for the help.
Anxious
The process is a lot more basic than that. Dealers receive allocation for the cars. Generally options like 1LT, 2LT, Auto etc. are not constrained. Where you should be concerned is if the order placed was for something like chrome wheels which have been constrained in the past, but currently are not. What it boils down to is allocation and if the dealer in question has a unit available for you and how many other people are in line at that dealer ahead of you.

In addition, if your dealer already has a Corvette on order for dealer stock (one that isn't already sold), they may opt to "reconfigure" that order as your ordered car. The only problem with that is that there's a very narrow window of time within which it would do you any good; if the order for the car that was ordered earlier hasn't yet been "picked up", then the dealer is still waiting for allocation for that order. Likewise, if the car is already scheduled for production, it's too late to make changes to the order.

We got ours via the "Dealer Stock" route. They allowed us to order exactly what we wanted. Their point of view was that they could sell the car no matter what we ordered.
Carl and mpuzach:
Thanks for the replies. The dealer has no other special orders placed for Corvettes. Also, he mentioned that he does not know what his 2007 allocation is yet. And I ordered a "plain" (no options) 1LT. So if what you two say is correct, this sounds like I have a good chance of getting the car (if small dealers get cars at the same time large dealers do).
Thanks again,
Anxious

You need to ask the dealer how many "allocations" did they have for model year 2006, and how many were used. Dealer should get at least as many allocations as previous year.
Low volume Corvette dealer, I believe, will get "allocation notice" on the first Thursday of the month. This notice will inform him if he has an allocation available. If allocation is available, order must be placed prior to the following Tuesday.
Possible a low volume dealer might wait months before he is allocated one Vette !!! High volume dealers such as forum dealers get allocations weekly.
I waited three months for a local low allocation ( 4 Vettes per year) dealer to be allocated. Finally cancelled as TommyJr. @ MacMulkin Chevrolet had an allocation available and I had the car at my door step in five weeks. I ordered a 2006 1LT, A6
We all get our allocation notices every Thursday (high or low volume)
This details what we were allocated along with the target production week for those units to be built and any constraints if any. Every dealer can tell you what they have available if they want to.

Yes, make sure you find a dealer that has allocation. My dealer took and placed the order on 3-21-06, it was status 3000 on 3-24-06 and it was born on 4-20-06. After a "quality hold" at the factory I picked it up at NCM on 5-12-06. Above all, if you can afford the 'Vette, don't settle for what you think the dealer can get for you. Get the options you want. If any option goes on constraint, I was told that you will have an opportunity to wait until it isn't on constraint or you can opt to have it built without that particulat option.
Go with one of the Forum dealers or PM me and I will give you the name of the person I worked with. I was very pleased with my buying experience.

Exactly on target........ that's how the system works.
OK, I have an order number. How can I track the build of my Vette? This too was from a small dealer. Took about 3 weekss to get "picked up". I would like to track the build of the car if possible.
and in a couple of days Ken will post the status of your order. Read back a couple of pages and you will see how this works.
Your dealer could do exactly the same thing for you, if he wants to be totally upfront and honest. But . . . if he is trying to hide the fact that his next allocation is 4 months away . . . . .

Try your dealer first and see how upfront he is. If he balks go to Ken.
The way knowledge of allocations was explained to us last year was that a dealer would know 4-5 weeks ahead of time how many allocations he has for each week of the next 4-5 weeks. He would also know the total number of allocations he has for the 4-5 weeks after that, but he will not know how many for each individual week.
I tried to order my 06 C6 thru my local dealer (who I have delt with for over 20 years) last fall, but he couldn't get it with Z51. I ordered from Kerbeck and picked it up at the museum 8 weeks later. They were very nice to deal with.
I spoke with my (small, local) dealer today and he said he won't be getting an ALLOCATION LIST on the 2007's until around July.
I spoke with another (small, local) dealer who said that his allocation list showed that he could HAVE MY 2007 C6 IN by July!
One can't get the list until July; the other already has a list and can get the car by July.
Who do YOU believe?

The dealer may have an "allocation list" for Vettes that indicate how many he will get for the upcoming model year.
However, the dealer does not know when that allocation will be available. He has to check every Thursday to see if a Vette is included in his overall allocations and if a Vette is allocated, he has until Tuesday of the following week to place the order.
Go with a forum vendor who has weekly allocations due to their volume. I'd go with Tommy Jr, @ Macmulkin !
I also decided to finally buy a vette from a local dealer (first one in 10 years after buying the last 3 out of state). Good deal ($2K over invoice and he did an in/out on my other car which will save me from paying ANY sales tax). My dealer gets about 36 allocations a year. I saw his computer last Friday and he has a "vet" allocation next Tuesday (he knows his allocations a month in advance) and we should know by Wednesday if GM picks up MY order. It also shows a TPW of 7/10/06-7/18/06 meaning that my car could be here as early as early August. I am #1 on his list having put $$$ down in early Feb and having GM accept (means nothing) a pre-order on 5/5/06.
