Default cursed!

I think my 'o5 vr coupes is cursed! I was enjoying a nice 84 degree day in Chicago with the top off when pop! My windshield cracked. I called my dealer this morning, they said they don't replace windshields they refer me to a company who doesn't use gm glass. anyone have their windshield replace? Was it gm glass, how did it come out?

other things that have happened to my cursed car..

dead battery club

roof seperation

prior chip in winshield

annoying squeling brakes(gm won't fix)

I almost think I am at the point of bein done with chevy

Bummer! It's frustrating when you invest this much and end up with a series of nickle-dime problems. Every one of them (except the window issues) has been discussed on these boards.

It seems to be true of the first and/or second year in every generation. Given the pressures of getting a hundred different systems out the door on the same deadline is a little more than GM can handle.

I bought "second" year cars in three generations -- C3, C4 and C6. Each one had fewer problems than year one, but still annoying little stuff. But my son's '93 and my '96, the last of the C4s, were almost flawless, even with the LT4 engine (96). Eventually they get it right.

Good luck on your fixes. The C6 is probably worth the trouble. If you still enjoy it in a year or so, trade for a car later in the cycle ('07 or '08). If you like these cars, it's hard to be without one. Even GM figures things out in time. Dealers, on the other hand, never....

There are several windscreens for the C6 and they all have functionality. For instance the Nav screen is different from the non Nav one. I would stick with the GM glass.

I believe you mean HUD, not nav.

Yeah, you have to stick with the GM glass because I think there is a small projector screen, which is a small piece of film in the glass for the HUD. Also, it would look weird with out the stock glass, there is that top black part that covers up the mirror and other things.

Call the dealer back and tell them they need to order a stock windshild directly from GM or find another company that does it.

Was your crack caused by the chip? It usually is.

Hopefully, you have full glass coverage from your insurance company. It's your choice, not the insurance company. Get the GM glass. If you have HUD, the windshield will say HUD on the first line along with the GM logo. Take a look at what you have now and don't accept anything else.

there's been speculation that 08 might see some relatively major changes for the midway point in the models life. Maybe these changes will be put aside in favor of finally fixing some of the major problems with the present C6? sure would be nice.

I was thinking about an 07 but no more. too much going wrong. and you know what? I disagree with the people who say that putting up with all these problems and getting them fixed is just part of the so called vette experience. That's a king sized crock.

Like having your roof panel come off? All other cars have significant problems too of course. However, I simply cannot imagine a BMW, Lexus, or Infiniti having this sort of stupid problem a couple of years into a new model.

So now tell me to go buy one of those if I am not happy. I don't want one. However, if GM/Chevy doesn't get these sorts of failures under control they will begin to lose market share. Not everyone has to have a vette and sales may begin to drop. I suspect the roof recall announcement may cost some thousands of sales .....

The engine seems to be fine in the C6....made in Canada. Good work Canadians. The manual trans though it has some detractors seems to be fine for what it is....that is the manufacturing quality and consistency seem fine.....way to go Mexicans......

Paint quality, DBS, roof problems, etc etc.....all made in BG. I say build the entire car offshore and it will be significantly better than it is now. With the engine and trans already built in foreign countries so what if the entire car were built elsewhere?

The roof is from an outside supplier. It even arrives at the plant painted.

I think you need to spend some time on Lexus, Infiniti and BMW forums and see if they are any different. All forums tend to bring out the problem cars and complainers. The majority of C6 owners will report they have had no problems. The DBS issue affects a very small percentage and that was corrected with the 06 model. The roof problem also affects only a few. It's major for those affected I admit. My 05 C6 was delivered 4/6/05, it now has 8500 miles and I have had no problems, no DBS or roof delamination. There are many more like mine. You mentioned three great cars that are not sport cars and completely different than a Corvette.

If you were in FL, your windshield would be replaced by your insurance co with no deductible. I assume you've already checked to see if this is the case in your state...right?

Default Another way...

Hey guys, last I heard these cars are covered from BUMPER TO BUMPER FOR THE FIRST 3 YEARS OR 36,000 MILES, right???
If you can't work with your dealer, call the Chevrolet regional office and ask for them to recommend a dealer to you to replace your windshield with a new GM windshield because the dealer you took it to doesn't want to! They'll give you a case or file # and check things out and will get back to you or the dealer will call you to change your windshield. Sometimes these regional offices can make a dealer see the light. But make sure you insist on the replacement windshield being a OEM GM windshield.
Good Luck

I had my windshield replaced 10 weeks ago. With the HUD/Onstar
the Windshield cost 1400.00+ tax. Labor was 132.00 an hour. If it needed new weatherstripping it would have been 168.00 more(it didn't need it).

They looked up my windshield part number by way of the VIN and ordered a GM windshield. It took them about two hours but glue needed about 4 hours to dry before I could drive off .

Its good as new and insurance took care of the bill(about 2K).

I wonder why then we can't just get a new roof that is already painted. Sure would be less painful than dealing with a dealer body shop.

It would be easier, but GM doesn't even sell a complete solid roof. You need to take parts from the old roof and install then on the new one. Go figure.

My rear window was smashed in (parking lot while I was inside) on the second week after I bought the Vette. The dealer did not pay to replace the glass. I had to pay the 100$ deductible from my insurance. Also the dealer uses a local glass company. After the job was done, there was glass shards trapped inside the hatch. Ever time I opened the hatch or went around a corner, I could hear them rattling around. Took it back and got most of it out. There is still some glass trapped. Also the paint around the rear window got all scratched up. My insurance told me it was not bad enough to fix.

So an outside glass place replaced the window, cost me 100$, there is glass trapped inside the panels of the Vette, and the rear is scratched all to heck. (My first Vette too)

, but ONLY if you bought comprehensive insurance for your car. I don't carry comprehensive (or collision) on my old Nissan and even older truck, but a windshield RPL on the truck was only $150, and the installer came to my office.

I DID buy comprehensive and collision ($1000 deductible on each) for the C6 Corvette, and as prseasix correctly says, this will get me 100% free glass replacement at the insurance company's expense, should I need it.
