does anyone know of an issue with the bolt backing out of the harmonic balancer? it happened to me and the pulley walked forward and threw the ac belt.
It was a pretty big issue with early 05's on this forum. You should find a lot of info if you search under Crank pulley bolt or something similiar.
there is a VIN range. I assume you were in it. It covered something like the first 10,000 or so. I don't like hearing that this has reared its ugly head again as I am in the range too!
The first 11,039 cars produced in 2005 were subject to a TSB involving the crank pulley bolt. The fix was to install a Diamond Embedded Washer to prevent the bolt from backing out. The DEW was used after the affected VIN's and installed retroactively on cars that reported a failure. Some dealers agreed to install the DEW as a proactive measure on cars that didn't have it, but that was not required under the TSB.

What do you want to know? I had it done to mine. The first 11,052 cars built in '05 were subject to this problem. It seems that most of the failures were in the A4's, but I don't think it was exclusive. MikeyC6 is the keeper of all things Crank Pulley Bolts. The repair is about 75 steps long. They take apart quite a bit of the front end, including the tie rods. When they put mine back together, they bent many of the fins on the Tranny cooler (Z51). Mine happened at 2,000 miles. I'm near 17,000 miles with no new issues in that dept. (Don't ask about all the other issues )
Don't worry, they'll get you fixed up, now that they know what to do and where to get the washer. Mine was in the dealer for 9 days because the clowns had no idea where to get the washer from, even though I told them. I had to call the WPC myself to get them the washer.
Well now you can't get the washer without buying new pulley too. I work at a non GM store and had already started tear down. Last time I took it to a Chevy dealer, (Bryan Chevrolet, Metairie, LA) all 4 wheels and tires got stolen and they told me to call MY insurance co. So needless to say, if I can get something done on my own, I will. This has kind of snowballed though!

There's a pretty simple procedure where you can pin the crank pulley (its the one they do if your gonna supercharge).I think Shopdog did it to his just to be proactive, its pretty much " foolproof ".

I'll bet that there's an email at GM from accounting to engineering about saving 'X' amount of money and 'just having to let those 2% of
C6's spew their guts'.....
