Default Which headers to get

Need some suggestions on a set of headers. Excuse my lack of knowledge but what is the difference between long and regular headers, why would I want one over the other?

The setup I will be running is a procharger, b&b bullets, and of course a set of headers on a 2006 manual z51. If I go with a long set of headers does that mean it replaces the cats in my car, and will that make the car extremely loud and fail to pass emmissions? Or do I go with a set of regular headers and keep my stock cats? Can someone please explain some pro's and con's.

Also what is the best headers out there, kooks, LG or Vette Doctors American racing headers? Since I am going to get the procharger installed at vette doctors maybe it makes sense to get there setup.

Thoughts...?

Most of the header companies offer cats that will work with their kits. If you live in cali then you might have some problems. Other than that it depends on your state.

TPIS worked for me... be careful on the install.. make sure you use someone who you trust. Mine were not installed exact and I ended up with one exhaust tip out further than the other.

Default Kooks

I have had Kooks on my 383 for about a year and 1100 miles. Both of the EGR air tubes have broken off at the welds. A friend of mine had the same problem. Kooks says you cannot block off the EGR air tubes on the street modlels because this will cause the afore mentioned problems, which will be your responsibility. I would also check the LG headers. Several dyno tests, not LG's, indicate they make more torque in the mid range. Hope that helps.

I've got KOOKS LT's, but The Vette Doctors are running a good price on American Racing headers with free shipping. Can't beat that.

I believe on the Kooks LT, you need to get the X-pipe or Cat system if you wish to avoid the welding directly to the stock system.

I'd go with the LG Pro Long Tube headers, proven race results. They fit well and perform awesome as well. I noticed the torque as soon as I tried my first launch. Lets just say there was smoke, rawwr!
