I have a 2005 convertible and my car was broken into last night. I woke up to an alarm sound but thought it was the neighbors since it sound diffrent than the sound from the panic button alarm. I went to my house door and thought I saw a blinking light thru the blinds. As I open the door the alarm stopped and did not see anybody or any broken glass. This afteroon I looked inside the car to see my center console and glove box contents were on the floor. The only thing I noticed was the roof latch was in open position but top was slightly open. The latch seemed to have more play than usual. The police could not see how they got any tool betweeen the top and top of windshield. The keys were both in a locked room. Any ideas as nothing looks touched.
Is it possible that your fob is programed to only lock the passenger door passively?.. So they enter the unlocked door and try to let their accomplice in the locked door setting of the alarm.. I don't know if that is possible but....
i believe they saw a bag in the front seat. I was something I was going to put in my dad's casket which I never did. Unfortuanatly there was a piece of jewelry of my moms I forgot to take out. Both doors lock.

Poor guy just wanted to sit in a 'vette... No really I feel your pain... I've 2 previous cars broken into(to steal Escort radar detectors, remember them?). You feel violated...

My rear window of my coupe was smashed in so hard I found glass on the dash while it was sitting in a parking lot last year. Yes, you feel violated.
But even with the automatic locking the doors can end up not locking.
If you do something unusual you can walk away from the car and assume it has locked when it might not be locked.
Example. If I pull into the garage and try to unlock the door while the vehicle is running the door will not open.
So I hit the unlock button. The reason for this is so I can see out the door to the rear wheel to check the position on the carpeting which sits under each wheel in the garage (darn car is pampered). If I then shut off the car, get out, and shut the door and put the key/fob on the other side of the house, I can go back to the garage, walk up to the car and open the door without the FOB.
I beleive that is the sequence of events anyway, or something similar to that which keeps the door from locking as you walk away due to you manually unlocking the door prior to closing the door.
Had it happen at a vette show once where I walked away from the vehicle to illustrate how the car doors would not open. I walked far, far away and had someone try to open the door. It opened anyways. I was not sure why. But I think again it was due to a rapid sequence of opening and closing of the doors although it did not involve the lock or unlock buttons.
After that occured I started to wonder how many times Corvette owners leave the car in a lot and assume it has automatically locked, when in reality it may not have locked at all.
So I guess a person wants to make sure the horn honks as you walk away (if you have it enabled) or if not enabled, check to see if the lights flash indicating the vehicle is locked. The horn honking is the best indicater as you don't have to watch the headlights, but it gets old rather fast.
...I have the doors lock automatically in mine... But even with the automatic locking the doors can end up not locking...
Are you certain that you have things set correctly? When the doors are set to lock automatically, the parking lamps will flash one time when the doors lock. This happens shortly after exiting the vehicle. Do you see the lights flash shortly after you exit the car and close the door?
I have my doors set to lock automatically and so far it's been working perfectly. I do test it periodically to make sure and the doors have always been locked. I will note that when I first got the car I had a little trouble setting up my choices on the DIC... most likely user error... I had chosen certain settings (so I thought) but they did not function.... but now that I am familair with everything, I have not had any problems. Point is, double check, make sure you actually have the locks set to operate the way you want them to.
Sorry to hear that. I've had my vehicles broken into twice. Once for a stereo, and vandalism. Hosesh--t feeling. Hopefully you have good ins.
We need to get proactive, like they do in South Africa. Car jackings used to be common there. A guy down there invented a flame thrower that would literally burn the would be carjacker. With the flick of a button next to the accelerator, flames would shoot out from underneath the car and set the thief ablaze.
Too Funny. Video of it is probably on the internet somewhere.

Two Fobs, two sets of settings
Remember, each Fob has its own settings in your Corvette's computer. One may be programmed the way you want it, but if you use the other one, it may not be. I think even the greeting on the DIC is different, if you customize the greeting - one for each Fob.
So run thru the settings on the DIC with both of the Fobs, one at a time, the other one in the house as far away from the car as possible . . .

I remember reading about that and actually saw a picture of it. They had to do something because it was getting too dangerous with many car-jackers just shooting the people first, dragging them out of the car, and taking off.

Thats to bad. You would think it would have a deterrant effect. Thiefs wouldn't know which cars have it. If you are faster to the draw, you could blow them away before they would get even close to the car to shoot you.
A friend of mind years ago, used to rig razor blades under his car stereo. That would prob invite vandalism, but would be priceless to see the look on the guys face trying to get the stereo out.
Here's a story you might wish to remember concerning worthless attorney's.
My 300Z twin turbo was broken into, the alarms awoke me and the thieves drove off but were caught within 30 minutes driving a stolen car with empty gas tank. Their attorney tried to get them off by claiming were after Cd's not my car! The defense attorney had me on the witness stand and only wanted to know the contents of the glove box. I said nothing of value was there, he countered on wasn't there tapes or CD's in the glove box and I answered that only the Owners Manual was in the glove box. He gve a strong look at the judge and got me off the stand.
Way back when I was young I owned a new 82 RX7. Had the ultimate killer sound system.. you know the drill.....
Was at my parent's house, staying the night... sleeping like a baby, when my Dad wakes me up a 4:30 am to tell me that the cops "just found my car"..
These geniuses used a crowbar to pry the metal sun roof off of the car and because I had done a not so smart thing myself... locking the valet key in the glove box.. these guys just drove off with the car....
They ever so gently removed all of the sound system by appearently using the same tool, destroying the entire dash in the process.... and we never found the sun roof.. Seven grand and 6 weeks at the dealership til they could get all the parts...
