I don't think someone giving you a number would work. Seems to me you would have to buy it in their name.

In order for it to be a GMS number, it has to come from a GM employee, and you have to be a blood relative. There are other programs that I understand can be transferred, but not GMS. Many people confuse GMS with "Supplier". GMS is the employee program.

I have heard of employee's buying for someone then selling but it is against the rules. I think you are supposed to keep it for 2 years before you can sell it according to the program's rules.

I sure would not risk it. As long as my mother is alive I get GMS through my late father's retirement.

Do you know of a dealer in Arizona that will honor GMID or GM Supplier Discount? I couldn't find one and ended up getting it from Tommy Jr. at MacMulkin Chevy in New Hampshire. Had it courtesy delivered for an extra $350 to Garrett Motors in Coolidge, AZ.

High ranking GM employees can get GMS for their friends. Usually 2 a month.
