Default Dealer problems

If you buy your vette from a forum dealer and have it delivered to your local chevy dealer, how does the dealer act towards you because you didn't buy from them? Do you have problems from the service dept?

Midway Chevrolet in Phoenix accepted courtesy delivery, but turned around and would not replace my floor mats (broken snaps) because I did not buy from them .

Larry Danduran at New Rockford Chevy in New Rockford, ND sent me replacements via Fed Ex, as I only had to email him photos showing the damage .

Default Funny, we are in the middle of a courtesy delivery

We are in the middle of a curteousy delivery...the manager asked why we didn't buy the car from them. We told them how much we got off of MSRP and they said, oooohhhh...do you know someone? We just told them that we are members of the CorvetteForum.Com and "have connections"

On our last Vette, we bought our Corvette in Wichita...luckily we never had to take our car in for work! I do my own oil changes...and minor maintenance. Hopefully, that will be the case with the '06.

Did you give them a chance to sell you the car? If so, and they were not very competitive on pricing, I say who cares what they think.

I would talk to the GM of the dealership about any refusal for work by service department. Yes they lost your initial sales profit but any dealership GM knows that the money is made in the service department. My two family cars and truck I bought out of state. My local dealerships are more than happy to do any warranty work and to service them. The real profit money is made in the service bay.

Did just that!! GM's response was the canned phrase of, "We can take your information and forward to the dealership, but they do not have to respond to your complaint as they are independently owned and operated." Those are the words that mean you are SOL :o .

BTW could not see or talk to the General Manager of the dealership. They protected his identity like he was a member of the CIA .

No issues, if they are a good dealer, they will at least want your service business.....

I was going to ask my local dealer to do it, but Rick Daniel suggested I use this particular dealer that he knows in Southern California. Rick said, it's only 350.00 to drop it there and the guy who handles this is a real Corvette gear-head, and he would take care of me. Will see.

So a good idea is if you are ordering from a Forum dealer ask him if he knows anybody. Remember they do a lot of these every year.

Your local dealer has to agree to take your courtesy delivery, it's not forced upon him. If he agrees to it, why would there be a problem later on with service?

But, real profits are not made doing warranty work. Service depts. make no money on the replaced parts (minimal markup from the manufacturer and it stays in the Parts Dept.). the "book" times are, for the most part, unreasonable and unobtainable by the techs. Once the "failed" part is removed it must be logged, tagged, boxed and shipped within a certain time period for the manufacturer to review and decide whether the part met the manufacturer's replacement standards, not the customer's. The repair order must be "perfect" with the proper description of a "failure", the diagnosis and the resulting "repair", if not the claim is not paid to the dealer.

A lot of what the customer thinks is a warranty repair ends up being dealer "goodwill", as the manufacurer decides the repair was unnecessary and refuses to pay the claim. This is why dealers refuse to do some "nit-picky" warranty claims if the vehicle was not purchased at that store. The dealer may have to "eat" the warranty claim and with no sales profit why take the chance.

Yes, Service Depts.have the goal to cover the dealership fixed expenses and make some net profit, but they sure would not come close if all they do is warranty work......virtually no profit at all in doing it.

Funny you should ask -- just had DBS this morning and got the
car started and into them. They acted like they were doing me
a favor trying to work me in. Refused me a loaner when they
had done it before for the same issue. Last time they see me or
any new purchase. Bought 4 other cars there before and wanted
them to service the C6. When people say Chevrolet dealers should
not service Corvettes they're right - no clue.

We do courtesy deliveries here in the SF Bay Area CA. There is no problem and I don't see why more dealers don't do them. We charge $350 and will gladly accept any more for delivery and service work.

Have you considered NCM delivery? I and many others here would highly recommend it, especially if you're uncomfortable about having the car drop shipped to your local dealer.

My local dealership treated me like crap because I did not purchase from them. That was bad enough but the thing that really chapped my hide was that I had visted their pavillion at a local autoshow a few months earlier and expressed interest in buying a Corvette. They unceremoniously blew me off saying that they were only getting in two more for the rest of the year and they were already pre-sold. Then they turned their backs on me and ignored me. So I left and bought from a forum dealer and then the local dealer treated me like scum during the "courtesy" delivery because I didn't buy from them.

They went out of their way to give me grief. I told them I wanted an extended warranty and they refused to sell it to me!! Jerks. So... I bought one from Fitchner Chev (and saved a bunch of $$$ too).

The a-hole who "delivered" the car to me wouldn't show me anything, including how to start the car! He finally relented and told me I had to put my foot on the brake pedal to get it to start when he realized that some potential customers were watching his rude behaviour aghast with their mouths hanging open.

The service department has not given me any grief - so far. In fact the dealership changed ownership several months ago and the new service manager is really trying to please people, which is nice and refreshing.

I was also somewhat concerned about how I would be treated during a courtesy delivery.

However, my experience was excellent. On my first contact with the dealer the sales manager asked why I did not purchase the car from them, and I responded "gmid". He said he could not match that price, and was very helpful during the whole process.

The service department was great also. I had them install a cat back exhaust and new powdercoated brake calipers and pads, all of which I provided myself. They really did a great job, got my car right in and out, and were just great to deal with.

While this dealer is about fifteen miles further from my home than another dealer that I did not want to use, I will definitely give them all of my service other than oil changes. I will also recommend them to anyone who may be looking for a Chevrolet product.

Oh, and one more thing. They charged me a whopping $125.00 for the delivery.

Whenever you go to dealership for service they enter you into their database. Is this database only info available to that dealer only or is it shared with all other dealers. I think it is only within that dealership that services your Corvette so if you go to two different dealerships you will be on two different files. Is it not centralized?
