I have been getting an intemittent active handling system light and associated DIC message to service the system. One time it would come on and on another start up it wouldn't. I called the dealer for an appointment as was asked if I had the auto memory recall system and the telescopic steering column, which I do. The car goes in tomorrow. Anybody know how these systems are interrelated or has experienced this situation? What's going on?
I had the same message, but it came on once & i have never had it again.I have heard some people have also had the message, but never got it again.Best thing is to take it to the dealer & let them pull the code
A common cause is too-short wiring in the telescoping steering column for the steering wheel position sensor. You can search for threads i have started and read my story, it may prevent an unnecessary tear-apart of your car. After yours is fixed, please post your results!
The active handling system monitors input (rotational position) of the steering wheel, among other things, to know what car is being asked to do. It compares these inputs to the cars actual behavior to determine when to activate corrective measures.

Could be,, I was sitting in the driveway with the car ideling for like 10 minutes and boom, the message came on.... so I shut down and restarte, then went on a cruise.. no meesages.. then tonight I was sitting with a friend, ideling for 10-20 minutes.....boom, light cam on.. shut down and re started, drove 40 miles home, (without her ...dang..) and no messages.. I will take it in and see whats up. The funny thing is, It had the 'active handeling" AND, 'ABS needs attention'
messages..

Within the last couple of weeks, I've been getting the message on the DIC about the active handling. It comes on within a few seconds
at start up. I shut it down and then restart and the message goes away until it appears again in a couple days. I do plan to take it to the dealer at some point but I wanted to give it a chance to make sure that when I do take it in, they can see the problem. You know how it goes, you take in for service and they tell you they couldn't duplicate the problem.
Just got back from getting the car fixed. There is a TSB out for this situation. To simplify, the telescopic steering is causing problems with the wiring harness that transmits data to the active handling system. Whether the harness is too short or is chaffing is unclear and I didn't care. It was fixed within a hour and I was on my way.
Additionally, from what I have been able to get from the technican, having the active handling system out is definately not a good thing. Those having this problem should take your cars in for repair. Basically, if you over-control the car with the system out you are on your own as the car can not provide "pro-control" inputs.

Excellent.
Thanks for the scoop, Aggie.
My '06 threw a "Service Active Handling" code, then cleared itself when I parked it overnight.
Then a few days later threw it again.
So the car goes in today to have this issue nipped in the bud right here & now.
There are other things that can also cause the Service Active Handling message, but the steering column TSB is so quick and easy to check/do that it's normally the starting point.
Just be SURE to tell the tech about the bulletin, mine didn't know about it and the code they get from this problem calls for replacing the steering wheel sensor, major disassembly required. I found a copy somewhere and handed it to him, can't remember where to get a copy for you. Sorry.

Yup, you're absoluterly correct Jim.

I told the service writer about the TSB when I turned the car over & sure enough, he'd heard nothing about [it].
Anyway the Tech repaired the faulty plug on the steering column harness & when finished -- about 90mins including an oil change -- the service writer admitted I knew more about the car than he did.
