2nd, the stock radio blows...i don't want to put a lot of money into it, nor do i want big bass. I would just like a nice sounding system. the stock highs are fine, they just overpower the lows. What are some options for adding a sub box?
Hubby had a C5 Z06 and there was a special box made for the large cubby in the back....does anyone make anything like that for the C6 cubbies?
If I added a sub, (nothing huge) would i need an amp or could the stock system push it?
All comments, suggestions, links, pictures are greatly appreciated.

I'm having a JL Audio Stealthbox thrown in mine on Friday, along with a 250 watt JL Audio monoblock amplifier. It's a little pricy, but I really hate the look of a big box sitting in the back of the Corvette.
I REPLACED THE STOCK RADIO with a eclipse nav unit and all the speakers with jl audio replacemnt. i just ordered a 8w7 ad a 250/1 amp to run it. i am going to build a fiberglass box so the roof will still fit in the car. i do not need a sound off vehicle got one of those but i do no for a fact that 1 8w7 will amaze you as it will kill m a couple of prety good 10's with ease!!

I'll let you know how it goes.
I just got pricing on the stealthbox as well. The price was suprising, but then again, that damn corvette tax!

Actually, that's all of JL Audio's stuff. The Corvette Stealthbox isn't significantly more expensive than say, the Miata one. JL Audio just makes really good stuff and they charge a premium for it.
In this case, you really do get what you pay for. I used to have a competition system in my car, and I used to build competition systems for an audio shop. We didn't start winning until we started carrying JL Audio and their engineers came in and gave us the books on how speaker boxes should be designed. We put two 12" woofers in a stupidly large and crazy box in a Nissan Hardbody, and I swear the bass from that box carried further than any other I'd heard before or since.

A good cheap and easy fix is a Bazooka self-amplified tube type subwoofer. About $200-250 installed. 6" and the top will fit over it when stored in back.

I use the self powered variety. 6" one allows the top to be stored above it.
Cheap, not audiophile quality, but does the job for me.
You also can detach and remove the sub in 10 seconds if you want the space!
I got my last one on eBay:

Sweet! Thank you so much! I'm not an audiophile either, i just want a nice sound.
Did you have to have it professionally installed? Any special connectors? How much - if you remember?
My original Bazooka was a bitch for even 3 or 4 different pros to install! Mostly because it had archaic electronics that didn't mesh well with the car. But it soon failed anyway.
The new one was a cinch to install. They did it for free, it took maybe 5minutes to switch out the old one! But that was after all the other groundwork and wiring was done for the first one. I'd say the new one should be a fairly quick and easy install for a pro. By now there's probably guides and information available to do it yourself. I would look at the audio section on this forum, or the Bazooka companies own forum:
It packs a 10" sub, and is self-powered like the bazooka tubes. Laid flat, it'll fit under the roof.
Sorry, just never been a fan of bazooka tubes. The small sub is asked to do too much and the sound is never really deep and pretty "dirty".
I've read that in other posts. Do you have any comparisons to refer to?
Did you have personal experience with both units? The new Bazooka?
Can you easily remove the Infinity?
The original concept of tube type subs has a great deal of physics behind it. They can be the most efficient.
But the ear is the true witness...
I did a 'Basslink' search on the Bazooka forum and they give all kinds of reasons why B is better than I.
Mybe there's a Basslink forum?....

I did competition car stereo installs for about five years in the mid 90's. Even managed to bag a couple of trophys. Granted, it's been a while, but I do have extensive experience with car audio.
I've just never cared for the Bazooka tubes. As I said, I think the sound tends to get pretty muddy and distorted at anything above moderate volume and it's never strong. A 6" woofer just can't move enough air to create serious bass, no matter how it's mounted, how it's run, the box it's in, or how much power you put behind it. And you do have to move air, because below about 60hz, you no longer "hear" the sound so much as you "feel" it.
The Infinity Basslink is not what I'd call ideal either, but I have one in my 4x4, simply because I don't want to spend tons of money on sound in a vehicle that is such a poor platform to build on. The bass isn't where I'd like it, but the box was under $200 shipped, and creates a decent amount of bass, and more important to me, it's clean. Well, clean enough for the money I spent.
No, I have not heard the new Bazooka, but if they are still using six inch woofers, I can't imagine how it could be noticably different.

I would think that in this price range I would go for whichever is the easiest to install.
And I do like the fact that the Bazooka pops out so easily when I need the space.
Just to add a third choice, I've purchased a Kenwood KCS-SW1 to put in my C6. Its small, self-powered (amp built in) and removable via 2 plugs. I haven't hooked this one up yet but used the previous Kenwood model (that this one replaced) for about 2 years and it would provide far more bass than I would ever want (for a 50yo). Remote volume, phase and crossover freq made it easy to adjust. New unit has fully adjustable crossover, old unit had a three position crossover.
I bought my son the Infinity mentioned above and it puts out some serious bass for it's size. It was physically bigger than I wanted to go for the vette, but is a very nice unit. I wasn't that impressed with the bazooka, but have only heard it in one installation.

So you value convienence over sound. No biggie there. However, if that's the case, I'd probably just upgrade the speakers in the doors and forget about removing the subwoofer altogether.

The original poster wanted cheap bass, but leave the Bose.
So a cheap amplified sub seemed logical. That was the way I went, and I remain happy enough today.
I think replacing the door speakers would be more complicated and expensive. And possibly more of a crap shoot, since you would lose the flexibility and adjustability of these added subs.
