Default Product Idea...

So.. I was thinking today - how cool wouldit be to have an power-retractable front license plate holder - it would be cool to be able to flip a switch in the car and have your front plate "pop"out... it could "hide" in the front air dam... ???

has anyone thought of this ?

Frame, plates, motor --probably add way to much weight !

.

Just attach it to the roof? It's sure to "pop out" and "hide" with certainty...and perhaps even take out your pesky neighbor.

I have been working on this for 6 months with little progress. Problem is cost and weight combined with the fact that it just can't be a fold down or flip out design. The design must extend out then flip up with litte support and can't touch the car NASA where are you

A while back we at Top Flight Reproductions www.topflightrepro.com looked into designing a retractable plate and because of space limitations and cost the idea was shelved. It would be cool though.

Default plate

I also thought of it but i'm not a gadget making type guy like so many on here are....For one thing, the plate is to big for the opening so it would have to be cut or made to move out a little....my other thought was to just lay it flat in there, but it's still to big. So,i've done the next best thing,I LEFT IT IN THE BACK STORAGE!!

Great $ Making opportunity.

It's borderline lawless so GM would never do it but you could get away with making them and selling only to Out of State folks by mail order/ Internet

I don't think it would be against the law to install something like this. Actually it could make some peole more compliant to the law. You display your plate properly when on public roads as required by law and you don't display for say if you are parked at a car show. I don't think it would be illegal to unscrew your plate and put it in the trunk during a car show and this is pretty much the same thing. Now if you make your rear plate disappear while a cop is behind you A.K.A James Bond then I think you are opening up a pretty big can of worms !

There are several manufactures that make retractable rear plates for street rods. They work off of engine vacum or by a switch. They do fold it under the car but someone may be able to make it work????? Hoe about it Ed???????
BTW NO Front Plate in Michigan but our bad roads make up for it...

They sell a item almost as described. I think the company is called " The Hoffman Group". Check your local Hot Rodder Magazine for more info.

The simple fold will not work on the C6, it would require an extend and fold, never been done and not easy
