I was on I77 in Charlotte a few weeks ago when the nav told me to "turn left" in .5 miles (yes on an Interstate), then within seconds it changed it's mind and said to make a right in .1 miles, followed by another right .1 miles after that. Then last week in Atlanta it told me to proceed .9 miles, then changed it's mind to a U Turn in .5 miles. On another outing I was sitting at an intersection looking at my destination around the corner to my left when it told me to turn right and go 1.6 miles. The dealer ordered the current DVD update, but my guess is that will do little. None of the streets involved were new.
Anyone have these kinds of concerns and any knowledge on what to tell the dealer to order to fix it? They are well-intentioned and generally known to have good Vette service, but I think they're just not finding anything wrong in the shop. Thanks.
No system is perfect. I have had a portable garmin streetpilot for over 6 years now and it does sometimes give you wrong info. I have used the nav in my vette with no problems so far though.
The system's just like that. I can be going down a hiway and the damn thing will say "Continue straight in 1.7 miles". You couldn't turn if you tried. It's a database problem.
No system is perfect. The good news is that you have the map on screen and can get back on track easy enough. Once you get beyond that area, it will probably be fine.
My Navchick directed me to exit an interstate and then get right back on. Twice within 10 miles. But my friend with an Infinity had the same thing happen.
Sometimes she chooses really good routes, other times I think she's been hitting the bottle.
The proper attitude is to consider the Navchick's words to be suggestions, not commands. And, unlike your wife/GF, she doesn't get mad when you ignore her!
The Corvette unit is not great I have a portable Garmin 3 years old and it outperforms our unit. The Corvette units interface is clumsy at best and the last time I said go home via voice it showed me were the Atm's were. The only reason I have it is that it came with the car when I finally went on a road trip the map detail and yes I have the new version did show the town I was in but no streets.I had to find a gas station to buy a damn map.
I have found at times what she calls a turn is no more than a jog in the road.
ChickenHawk, I have found my navi to be very accurate and gets me there on time. Never have had what you describe happen to me. When the directions are off do not follow them.
On exits that give access to two highways sometimes my navi gets confused. But I do what the exit sign says and she immediately readjusts and gives me the correct verbal prompt. Also if you are given directions for a lessor route, donot obey the directions. Go on the best route that you know. As you drive on and disregard the navi instructions, she will recalculate and direct you on your choosen route, to your final destination. When you are in the "Quick" route mode sometimes you may be taken out of your way, as the system tries to follow major highways or streets. In totally unfamiliar areas, checking of the suggested route of travel, on a hardcopy map is suggested, to keep from being taken 10-15 miles out of your way. You can tell the navi to avoid certain highways or class of highways. Waypoints can be manually selected, to force the navi system to go on your favorite scenic routes, to your favorite vacation desination. Longitude and latitude coordinates can be also used for navigation to rural locations, that do not have accurate addresses (used w/ Google Earth). Like other factory systems, the voice commands to the system are near useless. Commands from the touch screen are the way to go.
Use the navi for local trips to learn how it works. My navi is very dependable but I also seek verification.
If there was an access or feeder road next to the freeway, it may have thought you were on that...and so recommended turns...but after you pasted it, recalc.
Also, many streets and freeways change names (I-5 becomes something else and then back I-5N or something weird like that) and so the NAV may annouce each "name change" as a new street... just because that how it is listed on the DVD.
Overall...its great to have when you are in need of directions...but as stated above, its not perfect. Just like my cell phone, PC and most other gadgets.

You can observe the data base problem. When it does one of those nonsense "continue straight" announcements, take a look at the display and check the name of the road you are one. There is almost always a slight name change when you hit the "continue point".
Yesterday I must have gotten 6 or 7 of those in 50 miles on US 50 coming home from Lake Tahoe. The name changed back and forth from US 50 to US 50 West.
I've also had it tell me there was a turn when I could see that the road was straight for at least 10 miles crossing Nevada. I suspect that was because road segments weren't exacly aligned at the slight name change in the data base.

Often this happens to me, when I pass over or under another highway.
The system is tring to be too helpful. It reacts to the presence of the other highway, and so it directs you to continue on the routes selected highway, when you are anyway. "I am baby, I am. Chill babe," I usually say. Things like that are normal. Just ignor the voice prompt.
Is there an update DVD from the 2005 one? If so, anyone know the price?
I bought my C-6 Coupe used, with 6,000 miles on it, so I dont think I will get the freebie updates like a new owner does.
I have had the StreetPilot 2720 Nav, before the coupe, which is much more graphic than my coupe Nav, but on normal trips that I know the way, both units make the same mistakes regarding turns and announcments etc..

Does she reply back with "you never listen to me, I want a divorce?"
Got my 05 from a dealer and it had NAV. I really didn't want the NAV and wouldn't have ordered it. With 15 months of occasional use I have about a 50/50 success rate with selecting a destination and being guided there without errors or problems. In general I can't trust it to get me where I am going and need paper route maps as backup. I give the NAV in these cars two big thumbs down.
OK I think you're all saying basically this nav is screwed up. Thanks anyway guys. I'm going to see what GM has to say. I might add my daughter's 2001 Accura TL-S nav is flawless and I don't think it's been updated since new.
