Works as intended - no problems/no issues for me on my 06. As I'm sure you know, the shift light is not defeated with the CAGS bypass.

Only by those few who installed it improperly.

I only had one wierd thing w/ mine but it was operator error. I decided to do the Radio Shack mod. so I bought the resistor and installed it. Only to find out my CAGS was still working. WTF?

So I jacked the car back up and checked my work. Turns out the pins on the xmission connector simply pushed the resistor aside and continued making contact w/ the cable from the computer. I just bent the pins out of the way and all has been well for 1,200 miles and only cost me $1.

CAGS bypass is for those with the MN6 transmission. The car comes from the factory and forces you to shift from 1st to 4th gear. It's highly annoying for in town driving conditions. (At least that's where I found it most troublesome. No problem with CAGS on the open road.) For about $15-20 you can buy the CAGS eliminator and or do as grywlfbg did with parts from Radio Shack. Both will work. It takes about 10-20 mins or so to install the eliminator. A forum search should turn up several threads on the subject.

We installed ours about 4 months ago and so far no issues.

I did the Radio Shack route with my C5 and it got rid of the light completely. This time on my C6 I got one from Corvettes of Houston, I believe, and had Ken Fichtner install it. The light still comes on this time but otherwise is ok.

I've had one since my C6 was new (1 year, 5800 miles) and it works perfectly - no problems.

CAGS stands for "Computer aided gear selection" and the Corvette has it to help GM meet their CAFE requirements (fuel efficiency standards, google it.) The CAGS bypass is a resistor harness available at a couple of vendors that will disable the lock out gate on the transmission to allow you to shift into second. The details from the owners manual are attached below.

One to Four Shift Light
(Manual Transmission)
When this light comes on,
you can only shift from
FIRST (1) to FOURTH (4)
instead of FIRST (1) to
SECOND (2).
You must complete the shift into FOURTH (4) to turn off
this feature. This helps you get the best possible fuel
economy.

After shifting to FOURTH (4), you may downshift to a
lower gear.
Notice: Forcing the shift lever into any gear except
FOURTH (4) when the 1 TO 4 SHIFT light comes
on may damage the transmission. Shift only from
FIRST (1) to FOURTH (4) when the light comes on.
This light will come on when:
• The engine coolant temperature is higher than
169°F (76°C),
• you are going 15 to 19 mph (24 to 31 km/h) and
• you are 21 percent throttle or less.

Drive it like you stole it. I never had one on my C5 and won't need one on my C6 either.
