My September 16 convertible doesn't have them, of course, but my alignment is perfect. It would be interesting to know what VIN they started installing them. Apparently, this was a running change they thought important enough to implement ASAP.
Frankly, GM should probably have rubber bumpers on both top and bottom of the doors. With the right design, bumpers give you really solid sounding door close. For about a dollar a car, the General could give you a really quality sounding door close...uh, like a Toyota.
My 06 built 12/01/05 with no bumpers. Doors are mis-aligned and need them but the GM bumpers look like crap, IMO. So I purchased the much better bumpers from Ed at NakidParts.com. Work great, look great, and correct the GM screw up perfect. However, I love my Vette anyway.
Don't have `em on an early `05 . . .but is the application a result of poor construction alignment, or sagging doors from a progressively weakening hinge?
Is there a benefit to adding them to relieve wear on the hinges? Cost?
Could they be to eliminate the door rattle that some complain of? Sounds like something in the door is rattling when going over rough pavement, but my door has been pulled apart twice and couldn't find anything. Maybe that is what they are for.
Pipedreams (Nakidparts) has a similar item in a clear bumber that appears to be a slightly better solution than the OEM black ones. Just an F.Y.I. to keep your options open if you need them.
