Default Help replacing DRL?

Note that yesterday someone pointed out my passenger side DRL on my C6 was out ... did a search and see there are some problems maybe with these blowing out and one TSB. Meanwhile, I want to try to change out the bulb my self but I have NO IDEA how to get at it? It is not intuitive?

Any of you guys changed out the DRL? Anyone that can offer instructions or help?

Thanks!

I am assuming you are still under warranty - I'd take it to the dealership because there may be something else that is causing it to short out.

I posted a long detailed set of instructions but I couldn't find them so here is a combo of mine and shopdog's.

Turn steering wheel to the extreme to move wheel out of the way. Look in owner's manual and it will have a diagram of the panel to remove. It is held by pins that have a button in the center. Pull out the button and the pin will come out.

Reach in, depress the socket tab, rotate 90 degrees, and pull the bulb and socket out of the assembly. Pop the bulb out, and pop in a new one. 3057NA, available at Walmart at 2 for $1.99. Chevy uses a special and expensive bulb, but it doesn't seem to last any longer than the ordinary turn signal bulbs sold at Wally World, so you might as well use the cheaper bulb.

Don't forget to apply bulb grease to the new bulb (bulb grease is available at Walmart too). The grease is important, Chevy should have used it, the bulb would have lasted much longer.

A good number of the early build 2005's have a wire harness problem. To change the harness, the front bumper must be removed. It's a warranty issue so take it to the dealer. They should change the harness on both sides while the front bumper is off. I had both sides done on mine.

Thanks for the instructions Tin Star. I saved them because I know that I will need them someday.

I would replace them with LED bulbs, but I have not been able to find them.

This is great information from Frank (Another Yellow). Here is a copy of the information he mentioned. http://corvetteactioncenter.com/kb/q....php?qstId=561

There's nothing wrong with the factory wiring harness. A few bulb sockets had the contacts bent so they didn't make good contact with the bulb. If that's the case, then take a dental pick or small thin flatblade screwdriver and bend the contacts out so that they make good contact. Problem solved. If you get carried away and break a contact, NAPA has replacement sockets. Just snip off the old socket, use your Amp Champ crimp tool to install the new contacts on the cut wires, then insert until they snap in place into the new socket body. Simple, quick, easy 5 minute repair. No need to remove the bumper, remove the lamp housings, or change the harness.

(Following GM's TSB style)
The customer may comment that Mr Badwrench is an idiot who can't even replace a light socket. So GM will have him replace the entire freaking harness instead.

Isn't it sad that all we have set the expectation that all we have are "parts changers" working at dealerships.

Thanks Shopdog and all ... as I said, I would really prefer to avoid bringing it in to the dealer ... good chance they'll wash my car, "need to drive it", scratch the bumper or what else when doing their work, etc.

Gonna try what was recommended here myself first - if all else fails THEN I will do the TSB.
