I bought the BMW pucks and leave them on all of the time, if they scrape and break no big deal cheap enough to replace.

If you do go with removable, keep them with the car and if you scrape the BMW pucks you have lowered your car WAY to much!!

Thanks all...looks like the BMW pucks got the most votes.

And the BMW pucks...you remove them or leave them? I thought the BMW pucks were "supposed" to be permanent but it seems most of you prefer the removeable ones.

Heck...i think i just confused myself

I've had the BMW pucks in place for over a year. Don't even remember they're in place until time to use them. Very unobtrusive & work fine with a low profile jack.

I've had no problems with them.
I even forgot to take them off a couple of times and drove a few hundred miles, they didn't fall off.
Just completed my purchase of the same. Need easy removable for inserting T-hooks for trailering.

Well, if you are doing the work at home, you don't really need anything except a 2x4 between your floor jack and the frame crossmember in front or the rear axle in the back. If jacking the front up, I first like to drive up on a 2x6 placed under each front tire just to get the front end off the ground enough to insert my floor jack from the front. I always place a piece of 2x4 on the jack to spread the load, leave the car on the floor jack (if I don't have to work on the back) and place jackstands underneath the jacking points on the frame for insurance. For maintenance, etc. that does not require wheel removal, a set of Walmart ramps is sufficient to get the front or the rear up high enough to get underneath (again, when doing the front, I recommend you first drive up onto some 2x6s placed under each front tire to get enough space between the airdam and the ramps as you drive up on the ramps). HTH.

If you do your own maintenance in your garage...use either the removeable aluminum pucks or the BMW pucks according to your preference. The round BMW pucks are easily removeable with a large screwdriver, but are not visible if left in position. The taller rectangular BMW pucks are pretty much semi-permanently installed...I can't say if those are visible are not.

If you have your car serviced by others, then use the BMW pucks. They remain installed and are always ready for use. You will still have to tell the shop monkeys to BE SURE and position the lift pads on those pucks provided at some expense, "Or, I'm going jump on your face like an Alien".

Put the BMW pucks in and they will stay there forever. If they scrape I'm sure I'll have bigger problems.

The rectangular BMW pucks are much thicker so provide an added measure of protection should someone use a lift or jack with a lip on it. The round ones are fine as long as the lifting pad is flat.

If you want the rectangular BMW puck to be easily removeable, just install a small stainless steel screw in the end of the center pin leaving stick out enough that you can grab it with a pair of pliers.

The rectangular pucks are visible if you're standing back a ways from the car and the ground on the other side of the car is bright. Otherwise you do not see them.

I started with the round pucks and switched to the rectangular ones with screws....just to make sure that if the car goes on a lift or jack on short notice or without me around that plenty of protection is in place. If I want or need to take them out, it can be done quickly. I've never had either type (round of rectangular) rub on anything.

I use these as well. They stay on, and are unnoticible unless you get on the ground to look for them, and pop off easliy with a screwdriver.

ok, so it looks like the BMW pucks are the way to go...and leaving them in is fine.

Thanks for everyone's input!
