OK boys and girls lets get creative ! All sorts of sensors are built in to the C5 already. What use of them can be made in the C6 ? I'm thinking of the kind of gadgets that you can show off to your passenger as much as being really useful to the driver. My favourite idea is a feed from the active handling sensors to give a readout of lateral G force on the HUD at any instant in time. I have added some others and I expect you'll think of more.

Re: Instruments For Fun (te51cle)
I'd like to see them switch to an LCD or similar technology for the Heads up display (provided they could match the brightness of the LED). It would be really cool to have the flexibility in the HUD to have more than just the speedo, tach and fuel/temp.
What could you display? A camera on the side mirror to help you park and protect your nice rims. A navigation system displaying turn by turn instructions that you don't need to look down to see. An infra red camera overlay for better night vision. An OnStar/Internet link to give you traffic data/alerts. I could go on (I'm a geek :D).
I have a car with that guage and it is absolutely, bar none, the worse gauge ever created in the history of automobiles. Personally I like the oil temp gauge though.
How about a second HUD on the passenger side ? Perhaps the speedo could be calibrated differently so that the mother-in-law doesn't complain when you take her out in it !
Well some of those ideas would be helpful, like the control oriented and functional stuff. Even a small lap timer or something might be good. But a Stock Ticker? Are you nuts? That's asking for something bad to happen! (Stock too low...must crash car...collect insurance to pay off...Vette says "goodbye cruel world!!")
Well, ok that's not likely but an accident would be, not to mention road rage reaching an all time high due to economically induced frustrations. :boxing:
Hey guys while we're at it why don't we have them incorporate a Forward Looking Infrared Radar? It could tell us how fast we are closing on the 92 Civic in the left lane doing 10 under with its blinker on. It would pick up other radars and eliminate the need for a detector. You might as well have it integrated into the HUD too. Speaking of the HUD, why don't we just start stealing ones out of F-16's and the like. That way literally everything could be displayed up there! If you think that would be fun then I bet you'd also like the option BTMN. (That's the jet turbine with afterburner mounted just above the liscence plate.)
It's a Vette, not a 777. K.I.S.S., please.
Soon cars will drive themselves. Some say that will be the end of the gearhead. I say that will be the beginning of the standard on-board minibar.
Oil temp gaguge? Why, I already HAVE one of those in my '87 ;)
You have one in the C5 too. Just push the guages button until Oil Temp in displayed on the DIC.
BTW, I'll start a war here:
I say get rid of the analog guages and use the space for a good satnav system & ralley computer. Now that I am used to the HUD I never look at the analog guages anyway. The HUD really is a better and safer way to go.
SatNav is for weenies. :D All you need to know is if you're pointed in the right direction. "Aren't we supposed to be going north? I know we're supposed to be going north, so you'd better turn left at the exit."
Dashboard compass saved me from innumerable wrong turns in West Virginia one vacation. Don't put more aids in the car than are necessary - all that comfort leads to 'learned helplessness' and stagnation of the evolution of the Human species. Whee!
If they put any gauges in the car, I hope they arn't idiot gauges. I hate it when a car says service car soon instead of telling you why! Such as you didn't put oil in your F'ing car again stupid.
I'd like to have individual digital temp readouts for the radiator, engine, individual tires, brakes. Stuff like that. Maybe on a touch screen LCD on the dash. Make it so you can display what your interested in. These gauges are great for BS on a date too, nothing better than a gaget to talk about during quiet times.
I'd love to see a thermal imaging detector on the HUD, so you don't flatten someones great dane or trick or treators. That would be so sweet if it overlayed a thermal map over them. I can never see whatevers crawling on the side of the road till it decides it needs to beat me across the road at 55mph..
It would be annoying if the entire display was in ifared or thermal, so it should only highlight in some way. Of course this should be a insurance reduction too!
Replace the mirrors with monitors? I don't know if I would like that or not. I'd have to see it first I think.
I think that solar recharge mat should come standard on the car too, just make it that much reliable.
I think the performance of the car should be shown on the LCD so you can change parameters and whatnot. Like if they made it so you could filter all types of radio stations you don't like out, whoever made that would be rich. Like if you can deselect rap, pop, ext... from the scan list.
I'd like to beable to see if I have 80% of the recommended oil in the car, add 1 quart or something. Add more coolant to your radiator stupid. The perfect car for someone who bearly knows how to open the car hood!
I'd like to have personalized keys for each driver of the car so it knows to preset the seats and steering wheel, and the radio stations. If you let your teenager drive it, (your brave or you have a good kid) have a limiter so they only have like 50% power, and can't do burnouts.
The computer should handle the air fuel mixture better or let it be customized for racers.
But we'll probably just get a 5hp improvement. *shrug*
How about an entirely new C6 version added to the vert lineup that would have a folding hardtop that disappears under the tonneau cover like the Mercedes SLK or the upcoming SSR Chevy truck?
